As I still can't post on the TVRCC fora, here's a question:

I notice in Sprint that there will be a 0-60 competition on track. I've always been given the impression that any form of timing or competition on circuits is only allowed if cars and drivers comply with all of the relevant MSA rules, i.e. licences, car modifications etc. Presumably there are also implications for organisers and participants insurance in such circumstances.

How has the TVRCC got round this?

Actually, their datbase doesn't recognise my membership number - I mean, I've only had the same number since 1988!

it hasn't as such.

You run at your own risk (car wise, your track insurance will be invalid) but the basics should be OK for Liability etc as its being run under BRSCC. They will be Timing.

Its only 0-60 over roughly 1/5 mile.
I'm having a go! wink

Cheers
Andy
(I'm not running that bit, but thats my understanding)

Emailed the office on Sunday - no response to date.

Don't get me wrong Jeremy, I'm all for this sort of thing - I do Zolder every year and the acceleration test is one of the elements. I just wondered how the TVRCC were getting around the restrictions on such things.

BTW, the first trackday I did, Donnington '89, the TVRCC had timed sprints up the main straight, but I thought that sort of thing was no longer allowed by the MSA.

I'd be interested to find out how the club has "got around" the timing issues before I take part. Not that I would suggest they haven't, just interested.

I don't think there's any issue of 'getting round'. There's no law requiring events to be licensed. There may be restrictions imposed by the insurers, but that's another matter. The only problem that I can forsee is that the MSA impose a restriction on competition license holders not to participate in unlicensed motorsport events of the sort that the MSA licenses. This would only affect MSA license holders, and then only if the MSA got to hear about it and were sufficiently upset to make a fuss (which I doubt they would). Strictly speaking I probably shouldn't join in the races at Zolder, but tbh it's not very high on my list of things to worry about.

Pete, isn't the difference that UK circuits fall under the jurisdiction of the MSA, whereas foreign ones don't?

Yep, Alison emailed me, confirming my postcode, and to add a "0" to the beginning of my membership number, but it still doesn't work! Membership number not in the database. Come on guys, you can tell me now, I've been terminated haven't I?

The TVRCC Is msa Affiliated...

The BRSCC are happy to run the 0-60 runs, and its not strictly competitive, although it is timed its only one car on the circuit at a time.

relevant risk assessments will have taken place and medical support in place, so whilst no event involving moving vehicles can ever be 100% safe its about as good as it can be...

Paul if it makes you feel any better I couldn't register back on the tvrcc site without getting the webmaster to sort me out... hehe

I can't remember the exact wording and I'm too lazy to look it up, but as far as I can remember the wording prohibits participation in any motorsport not licensed or exempted by the relevant body authorised by the FIA, which in the UK would be the MSA. I think it could even be interpreted as prohibiting banger racing and so on which AFAIK the MSA don't license and would never consider licensing. But it's academic for most people since it only affects MSA license holders, and most MSA license holders will probably take the view that the chances of the MSA giving a stuff about it are slim to none, and if anybody starts getting funny it could probably be described as testing rather than a competition.
