I recieved this months sprint earlier last week, and i have seen the spread on the Speed camera detector on special at £99, i have never looked to purchase anything like this, but now being the Victim of a Gatso in April giving me 9 points, I am now on the look out for this kind of product,

is the one in Sprint any good? or are there better ones out there for the same kind of money?

thanks in advance,
Steve

The one shown in sprint is very good, i've been using it for about 4 months now, very good visual display of speed, which is essential when your speedo is a bit out like mine, its good at letting you know when theres a camera, you can set it to alert you from two miles out, it also fits in your pocket wheres its small. in sprint its shown at £99 plus vat, you can buy it from Halfwits for £99 including VAT. Fully recommend it!

They've just been reduced to £69 inc. vat in my local Halfords.

I must admit I've always felt that the fixed gatso detectors were a bit irrelevant because gatsos are no longer hidden behind hedges, are painted in bright yellow and have a shedful of warning signs in their vicinity. However, the Talex unit apparently warns of habitual mobile scamera sites, which is a whole lot more useful. Except that Essex police have just announced that they're going to significantly increase the number of mobile sites and 'covert' camera operations rage

Hmm, there are still some quite well hidden and there are also places that have warning signs but no actual cameras!

I've used a Road Angel for about 3 years and wouldn't be without one, or an equivalent.

Had mine about that long to, and its been invaluable on roads I don't know and because my speedo intermitantly lies.
Unfortunately they are not much use when it comes to camera vans. I impulsively slow down when i see a white van on the side of the road. Only, yesterday coming off the A303 i spot a dark blue VW Passat with camera set up inside in a layby...jeez now I am going to have to slow down every time i see any vehicle parked in a layby!

I don't subscribe to Sprint so could someone tell me which model this is please?

Does is have a detection facility or is it GPS based only?

Thanks.

Model is a Road Pilot, Micro Go,
bought one from Halfwits yesterday, £99, seems to work OK, at a guess i think its GPS based, but don't take my word for it, my technology brain does not go any further than 8 cylinders in a V configeration !

Google says "microGo is the world's smallest GPS speed camera warning system" so be careful, it won't detect mobile scamerati.

As with all GPS based detectors, don't forget the annual subscription for the updates.

I think Roadpilot charge £49.95

Phil
Just checked with local branch of Halfwits at Lewisham and they say the unit is still £99. Which store sells it at £69?
Cheers

It's also £99 still on the Halfords web site.

Err, sorry chaps, it seems I was looking at the Talex Lite, not the Road Pilot referred to in this thread! It's the Talex that's been reduced to £69 from £99 which appears remarkable value given that it won an Auto Express award last year and also claims to alert you to established mobile scamera sites.

Dont the local BiB have to register their mobile sites? My Tom Tom alerts me to these.

Thank you for this feedback. I have the company looking into this with a view to reducing the price for these units for Car Club members. They were allegedly not aware that Halfords were selling them for less than £149.
