Wheel and tyre damage
Discussion
Got pushed off the road last weekend and damaged the front NS Spyder; gouged and a bit flattened. Also tore a bit of the tyre wall, don't know what it's called but the bit that overhangs the edge of the rim.
I'm assuming the worse, but first question is does anyone know if this sort of damage can be repaired or is it a definite replacement job? Just wondering whether or not to bother taking it somewhere.
Second question, what is the availability of new spiders like?
Third, should I be automatically chucking out the damaged tyre, or is damage to that part of the tyre not such a problem as it's thicker there - maybe just to enable a good fit to the rim?
Apologies if these questiosn are niave.

I cant answer your question about the Spiders, but I can offer an opinion (they're like arseholes dont ya know
) on the tyre
If any part of my tyres on the Battlecruiser were damaged to that extent, I would rather go to the expense of replacing it rather than potentially having something go wrong with it due to the damage and fire me into a wall
Sorry to hear about the damage, hope you manage to sort it out

Sorry to hear that Lee. I had a similar incident recently, but entirely due to driver error! The rear wheel was slightly buckled, and front and rear badly scuffed - note these are standard Chim alloys, not spyders. I had thought that the rear was beyond repair, but only this afternoon i have taken it to this firm here http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/contact.htmI'm assuming the worse, but first question is does anyone know if this sort of damage can be repaired or is it a definite replacement job? They reckon they can sort it out, polish off the scuffed rim and re-paint & lacquer, all for about £40.
I know they are a bit out of your way, but I have to go and collect it next week. If you can get yours to me somehow by then, i'm happy to take it over and see what they say. I'm in Crowthorne, Berks.
As for the tyre, i think the proper thing to do is to bin it.
I think you have my e mail address, but if not PM me through here.
Good luck, cheers David

Yeah, thanks guys. I thought that it would be binning the tyre.
Thanks for the link David; I'll give them a call and maybe mail them a photograph to see what they say. And thanks for the offer of taking it up. If I can get it to you, I'll let you know.

I took these guys a set of OZ split rims to refurb a while back and would heartily recommend them, despite the fact that it took them a couple of attempts to get the rims air-tight. Nice friendly service and excellent results. They reckon they can sort it out, polish off the scuffed rim and re-paint & lacquer, all for about £40.
Back then they did collection/delivery to me in Herts, but I don't know if they still do.

They still do delivery/collection for a full set, and seem a good bunch.Gassing Station | General TVR Stuff & Gossip | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
