What should I do?
Discussion
I have just sold my Porsche Boxster and now want to return to TVR ownership after a 6 year absence, I sold the Boxster for £25,000 and I would like to buy a T350, Tamora or Tuscan, but my girlfriend (Wendy) wants me to spend £20,000 on the house we have just bought and spend just £5,000 on a TVR, this means I will be looking at a Wedge, S, M, Taimar etc.
Do I blow the money on a modern TVR, live it large, but, run the risk of being told "I told you we should have spent the money on the house" every time the slightest little thing needs repairing in the house, or.....
Do I do the sensible grown up family man thing and invest the money in the house, buy myself a classic TVR which I'm sure I will enjoy but every time I see a modern TVR I will probably mutter to myself "I wish I had bought one of them"
AAAHHH!!! What to do?????

The house will be there long after you've gone. Buy the newer car and enjoy it. Buying an older TVR after the Boxter will be a culture shock for you and Wendy I supect.

See you in a Tamora soon then

Hmmmmm, Tamora, me like.
Your a lucky man who has the best of both worlds, two modern TVR's and a classic, if you could have just the one TVR, money no object, what would it be?

Sensible head on - buy an early Griffith precat for 10K and spend 15K on the house.
Tried that one...the work we want doing comes to £20k, so the £5K budget was the best compromise I could get out of her

A wedge is an option if your other half is determined you're going to waste the 20K on the house
. I think our old 390 SE is for sale on here at the moment, and the add suggests that's been rebuilt (I think its ours, same colour scheme and same compomotive FH wheels we had fitted when new). We still have a bit of soft spot for wedges.

If your budget seriously is limited to 10k and below, then maybe a 390/400SE??
Or as the guys have said, just buy a Tamora...they're a bargain at the moment and a lovely car

Although the recovered dash and trans-tunnel is fairly rank, its still an option

Col - I remember when you first contacted me about coming back into the fold.
Your words were I want a Tamora / T350 - then you were talked out ofthat and into a Boxster!
Now youve returned to the same thoughts and you run the risk of being talked out of it again.
The first deviaition didnt make you happy. Is a second?
I suggest you live with the desire - even if its just for the summer and then consider the house.
Enjoy it!
See you in a rather sexy looking gunmetal Tamora - in at Hgt now. Theres a deal to be done!

I think you should buy this for around 10K :
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/212384.htm
As it's in excellent condition, is one of the best and won't cost much to keep in this condition.
A T350 / Tuscan will cost loads and parts can be hard to find.. I had a T350 .. so know how much it costs and depreciates..
and spend the rest on the house (15K)

try this..

then ask dom to put the supercharger on it (£4500 + vat and it's guaranteed). Will be nice and quick.

£5k sounds like a tight budget for a TVR to me! There seem to be some nice looking Chimera's for about £8-£10k but as mentioned in another posting, going from a Boxster to a sub £10k TVR is going to be a big change to waht you are used to. If your budget really is limited to £5k and the good lady wins the money for the house
then I would personally leave the TVR idea for a while until you save some more pennies to get into the market with £15-£20k in your pocket. There are plenty of fun, interesting cars out there for £5k depending on the kind of use you need out of it.
