I purchased my 450 Chim on 19th May 2007 and was living, eating, sleeping and breathing Chims for months beforehand whilst looking for "the one".

At what point is one not a newbie? Is it after I have offered advice at least three times on the TVR forums? Is it when I have spent at least £2K on TVR upgrades? Is it after the first 12K service? Don't get me wrong, being a newbie is good but it crossed my mind when I read a thread today on the Chimaera forum where so many jumped on to say that they were newbies and had only had their Chims for a month or two. It just got me thinking, is there a protocol for this stuff, just so I don't make an 'arris of myself at a TVRCC meet!

By the way, permagrin stuck fast and still LOVIN IT! biggrin

Have you had to call out the AA or RAC yet? You're not a true owner until you have wink

You need to have ruined at least one new shirt or jacket whilst crawling under the car after it's broken down to not be a newbie...

If you still feel a newbie, then I suppose you are..

Thinking the same sort of thoughts myself. - Maybe it is time for us both to start thinking about graduating to 'non newbie status'

Nice of you to visit the forum Stu! Have you ever tried to crawl under a TVR by the side of the road? When you are forty five plus and several stones in weight more than the average bear then roadside mechanics just ain't happ'nin'!

Much better the large American V8 beasties for AA stylie action! biggrin

When you've gotten so hacked off with the car and actually put it on egay to flog "the bastard" but withdrawn it due to that bloody annoying yethugely satisfying "last drive" is when you become a certified fanatic!

That applies to most unreliable but loveable cars!

If you are on about the ratings on the TVR forum, I think it is 50posts before you 'upgrade' from newbie. You can also post pictures from then on. I think the next grade is 500 ish then 1000 & then 2500. Probably wrong though. But does it really matter as long as you have a TVR?

Being a newbie is the best bit...first 'taste & smell' of a well thrashed TVR, first convoy, first break down, first DIY fix, (very satisfying) first AA/RAC recovery (learning how many TVR's he's saved) first 'won't start at the filling station'.......etc, etc.

Like a dirty woman really, the good times are well worth the bad biggrin...yes...always...

Johnniem,

bit of advice before you attend one of Nick's meets, it's going to cost you.

First of all it's the tanks of optimax you use on the runs, then it's the let's go to this pub for a run out, then there's the weekends away, then a couple of pints on a Friday, then the trips away, then the upgrades you must have, then the Christmas do, then the Summer Ball, then Le Mans etc etc

And I was the one that thought it would all be a bit geeky.

Makes me wonder what I did before.

Hope that helps.

Terry

PS He even lets ex TVR drivers join in.

11) Smiled inwardly when something goes wrong and then pat the top of the dashboard and say "don't worry, we'll be fine"
