Do they do a 4 ft wide one ? With Chim being the daily runabout and using wood/candles to heat the house, I reckon I will have a fairly broad print. As the temperature has dropped I have replaced the energy effiecient bulbs in the house for filament bulbs so that I don't have to put the central heating on (low energy but continous). An alternative method as far as I'm concern and I get a dual benefit from the energy I use !

I'd so love one, but I also like coming back to my car to see that it is still in the same state I left it!

I heard an argument recently that suggests -

Drive car 3 miles, emitt 0.9kg CO2
Walk 3 miles, require 100g of beef to replenish calories burnt.
100g of beef emitts 3.9kg CO2 in production

Don't walk drive, halve your footprint by driving your girlfriend about

shoot joggers, they're killing the planet.

(I cannot remember the source, but do remember it being scientificly correct)

I heard the same argument.

Although, people should remember that all the cars in the world account for less than 1% of total CO2 produced.

If we killed all the worlds cattle that would reduce CO2 by over 85% overnight. FACT.

40K so far and nothings dropped off. The only time I've been left stranded was when the master clutch cylinder let go (Ford bit). (Oh and another 30k in the Tuscan with nothing dropped of so far (except the font number plate).

A resting person generates around 1kg of CO2 per day, this assumes they are lying down all day, which most of us are not. An active person can easily produce three times that amount - depending upon what they do, but when resting, it is therefore, 41g per hour. When excercising, however, the rates of CO2 production increase by roughly the same rate as the heartbeat which would suggest that the number will double during a spirited walk to around 82g per hour. So, someone walking at, say 2km per hour would produce roughly 82g of CO2, compared to a Ford Mondeo 2.0 litre producing 378 (petrol, according to Government figures).

A brisk walk of 2KM in an hour needs about half a Watt in terms of energy input and this is where I need help - what is the CO2 cost of putting enough grub into a human being for them to expend it in consuming a half Watt of power during a 1 hour period?

My guess is that the previous post is not far off the mark!

It's all bolloxs anyway....

and a graph of the miniscule amount of carbon in the atmosphere is here

PS we add about 3% to the .03% of carbon in the atmosphere, now look me in the eye and say 'we're contributing to Climate Change'

It was from Sprint - can't remember the source indeed. I got it from New Scientist. There were two separate articles over two weeks' issues.

I also pointed out that when anyone starts their TVR the world becomes a cooler place.

I've had four people telling me that I was trivialising global warming. That's the highest critical postbag I've ever had. To be fair, two were taking the mick but the others were serious.

How can you trivialise something that doesnt exsist? scratchchinwink

Global Warming does exist, the climate is changing but then it always has regardless of the presence of Man on this planet. However, it's the claimed cause that is wrong.

It was a tongue in cheek statement, but as you;ve pointed out mate, it changes all the time regardless of what man kind does...its a natural cycle

Of course THE main greehouse gas, the one that can cause massive and rapid climactic effects over large areas by blocking out the heat from the sun or by forming a blanket to keep heat in is not CO2

It's water vapour, makes these things called clouds!

Sorry I missed the tongue in cheek element but it's a regular claim of the pro carbon story that people who don't believe their propaganda don't believe the climate is changing. I accept it's changing just that it's nowt to do with us.

If the climate didn't change there'd be no such word as climate!

The Earth is still emerging from its last major ice age therefore, by definition, the it will get gradually warmer until it goes back into the cycle once again. During the last ice age there were massive periods of time when the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere was many times higher than it is today - go figure smile

Precisely - Ecomentalist backlash can be pretty severe. They campaigned outside the Porsche factory recently carrying banners that said Klima Swein (Climate Pigs). This whole thing is nothing more than class warfare wearing a different hat than it has in the past.

Absobloodylutely, and the political parties have hemmed themselves in to backing the green debate (as an easy tax wheeze built on wafer-thin evidence) built with no easy way out.

10 years ago we dismissed the greenies as madmen with beards who crossed their legs and bounced on beds - soon they will be the ultrapoliticos in control...
