Has anyone tried this stuff from ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
I have a small chip on one of my estorils that needs removing, it's not worth having a full refurb but needs attention. biggrin

If it's anything like the one they sell in Halfords, then the kit requires you to repair the alloy and then respray the entire alloy with the supplied paint!! Funnily enough, that put me off ever trying it.....

I had a look at the one in Halfords and wasn't impressed. This one seems to be brush on filler, sand, brush on paints and then brush on the laquer. I guess it can't make it any worse.

Is the damage on the edge of the wheel? Could work ok. Another concern is the colour match of the paint, may end up standing out as much.

But you know what, like you say, worth a go!!

No, the chip is on the edge of one of the spokes. I am hoping the silver is a fairly standard colour for alloys. If it doesn't look right I guess I'll just have to fork out for a refurb.

The filler was great and I thought it may look OK but none of the paint colours matched so now looks a bit of a dogs dinner and will need a refurb. Oh well, worth a try!

Smart repair is where they just repair the damaged area of a wheel.... ie a nick in the rim, or in my case 2 spokes on a 17 spoke wheel........ The wheel does not justify a full refurb.

There appears to be a growing number of companies offering this service now..... I'll be using Chips Away (the people who do the minor body work scuffs and stone chips).

I used this company

www.wickedwheels.co.uk

after a recomendation from another PHer....

Fantastic job, cannot tell where the repair is.....

Not a cheap option at £82 for a 17" rim, but v convienent as car out of action for all of 1 - 2 hrs.

I choose this option as I need the car daily also, I was concerned on a total wheel refurb of not getting a colour match with existing wheels.

Bloody difficult to do this yourself and get a good finish, normally make it look worse from my experience.

Got my front wheel done at a place in Coventry, they colour matched the paint, filled, sanded, sprayed and lacquered the whole wheel all for £25. A great finish as well, can't even remember which wheel it was and you certainly can't tell.

Just seen this thread.

Al - tried e-mailing you and can't, so could you reply and let me know where in Coventry you used - I want 4 alloys doing and don't want to pick somewhere out of the Yellow Pages.

Thanks very much,

Martin.

Sorry I think my out of office assistant has upset PH as it has blocked my email address. It's the Auto Refurb Centre on 02476700344.
