Sticky onny numberplate
Discussion
Finally got the go ahead to put my old TVR reg onto my new TVR. It's a T350 and so has a very curvy front! What's the best cleaner to prepare the surface, and what's the knack for applying the sticky plate without ending up with wrinkles? Should I heat it with a hairdryer first? Should I peel the whole plate off its backing and plonk it on in one go? I just know I'm going to make a cock-up of this!
I would think it would be the same as window tinting, use a solution of around 1ltr of water with about half a tea spoon of washing up liquid in it, spray the area where the lable is to be applied, then place the lable on the body, you can then move the lable around to the correct position, then squeeze all the air bubbles out to the edges using a flexible piece of plastic, then leave to dry, or speed that bit up with a hair drier.
If you get it from craigs plates it comes with some instructions. Which if you dont read are no use. [cough]
Also make sure the car is flat. Or you stand a chance of doing what I did 1st time around, and making the numberplate horizontal, but at an angle compared to the car....
Yep I'm really crap at this.

Make sure surface is bug free, use a light cleaner. Bug off etc. Mark a straight line using inch masking tape, this is your guide. Using a squirty bottle apply a film of water to the area the plate is going on, can spray whole bonnet if you want. The water let's you move the sticker/decal around to line up. Peel the backing off plate, light spray of water on that too. Hold the plate right way up and apply as close to guide line as possible, you can then move into position with water. Use a damp cloth or squeegy to push the water from under plate, this also pushes any air out. Should be ok. Leave to dry.
Thanks for the advice chaps! Put the plate on today using the water method, which seemed to work. Unfortunately trying to put a flat plate on a round surface was a problem! Nice and bloody wrinkly at the bottom bit of my curvacious tiv! aarrgghhhh!
Rear one was easy though, and that's the one most people will see!
