woohoo

a whole group of us went in April this year, was excellent, weather was great which was a bonus we took over a whole car park and the whole day was fantastic, can't remember the prices, think it was 8euros per lap and you can buy tickets for more and get a bit of a discount.

have a look at these thread, loads of info on there ...

what to take list!!

loads of pics too

Oh and as you can see, we spelt nurburg completely wrong hehe

quite a few of us stayed at a hotel about an hr away, only cause there were so many of us, but there are loads of hotels near the ring, which is what I'll do next time.

I'm hoping there is going to be another trip next year, is definately a trip not too miss smile

When I went with a semi organised group we stayed here for quite a good rate:
http://www.hotel-an-der-nordschleife.de/

It's right next to the entrance 1/2 way round so you can use the ring to get to the start/carpark!

19 euros per lap, 64 euros for 4 laps.

You will enjoy it I'm sure. Wet laps are fun too. Earlier you are there, the quieter it is. I did several sessions this year, one in particular where I was in the small queue at 08.00. I was starting my third lap at 8.30!!

As many have said on here, it should be on any Petrolheads list of things to do.

A number of us went back a couple of weeks ago (straight from the Spa 6 Hours) http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Best place to stay is Sabine Schmidt's (Top Gear top totty) family hotel The Am Tiergarten http://www.am-tiergarten.de/en/home/ (cost circa €75 per night) and remember to book into the hotel's lauded restaurant The Pistonklause, with its famous steaks lick. The hotel is only about a km from the Ring entrance.

Enjoy yourself smile

Had my first trip in August combined with a weekends racing at Spa. Can't recommend both enough. Spa is so close it would be a shame to miss it if you can spare an extra day or 2 for your trip.

As said above, steak at Sabines is also a must do lick

All info you'll need is here.....
http://www.nurburgring.org
http://www.northloop.co.uk/

There is also a great forum accessed thru Ben Lovejoys site where I posted a report of my trip with some recommendations....

Hope above helps smile

Tuscandom - youve gotta go!!! Got back from the track yesterday and once again it never fails to put a smile on my face! We got a fantastic deal all round, £27 each way to get through the euro tunnel and stayed at the Dorint hotel, nurburgring for 126 euros (twin single beds for me and my mate) per night. The Dorint hotel was excellent! The hotel is situated at the start finish of the new F1 track and if you want you can pay extra for a balcony room overlooking the track - brill! Apart from the price being reasonable, the food and their bar was good too, again all reasonably priced - 23 euros for a 3 course buffet! The hotel also has attached a motor museum with some fab kit inside, bugattis, ferraris (sadly no tvrs!), and numourous F1 cars. We went on a crash test dummy simulator, numerous playstation nurburgring simulators and much more - all for 12 euros! To top it all the basement of the museum/hotel has an indoor kart track to build up your adrenalin prior to doing the real thing! Forgot to tell you that the nurburgring track for us is visible from the hotel no more than half a mile away! Been here 3 times now and this has been the best trip so far!

Insurance wise i am with tesco and as long as your trip is no longer than 3 days they will send you a green card, a GB sticker and fully comp cover for free! Eurpoean recovery i have with Norwich Union and had agreed with them that if my Tuscan broke down, they would supply me with probably a Fiat Panda so i could continue my journey and put the tvr on a low loader back to England - untouched by foreign hands!!! Again a good deal i think and for this they charged my i think an additional £30 pounds a year! Never had to use it though as my tuscan is fabously reliable!

Didnt know i could babble on so much! Hope it is of some use though!

After reading this thread i've decided i'd like a little go at that.

Two things though, do you need european trackday insurance? and if so who is reasonable?

Thanks,
Jon.

Comet, if you think the Dorint was good you'll love this...
http://www.am-tiergarten.de/en/home/
This is the place run by Sabine's family mentioned above - cheaper than Dorint and amazing memorabilia filled bar downstairs (no kart track but the best steaks this side of Argentina wink )

thainy77,
Do a search in the Trackday forum - Ring insurance was discussed on there at length just before I went in August. It's very expensive to buy Ring insurance but I was lucky enough that my everyday insurance provided cover as they (correctly) state it is a public toll road. Most, however, exclude the Ring and some even have an exclusion zone around it!

Might be cheaper to rent a local track car for the day with cover included? Alternatively do what a lot of people do and simply take the risk of being uninsured. It depends on how many laps you intend doing and how fast you think you'll go against the risk of a mishap, but don't underestimate the massive costs of being removed from the track and repairs to the barriers if you do have a big off....

Thanks for the help Longers. I had a look but it didn't really clear anything up.confused

I think the best bet is just to ring my insurer and see if they class it as a de-restricted toll road.

the only one we are currently aware off is a mannings who give the regular minimum 3rd party required by german law.

its not just if you are in a prang, if you are a witness or involved, the german plod WILL CHECK YOUR DOCS!

this happened to one of our guys last year...he was ok.

german toll road - public road - you need insurance.

a trackday if different, insurance not mandatory, but again, if going to to Spa afterwards mannings will be ok. Sunninghill don't cover the ring...ok for spa.

Is normal Sunnyhill insurance ok to go round the ring then as in from legal point of view?

I doubt any insurer will ever cough up if you stack it Big Though - Slippery than a Slippery Eelwink

Hamish, when I went on the Cerburgring trip in April I phoned Mannings and they told me I WAS covered for the Ring, but when I phoned them before the Spa/Ring trip (different member of staff?) I was told I WASNT covered for the Ring on public days, but would be if it was a properly organised Track Day.

They really should sort this out!

Andy, you speak to Mannings regularly...cant you get a definitive answer out of them/get it confirmed in writing?

Specifically checked with both Rich (tvr desk) and Ann regarding the ring.
covered for basic 3rd party cover in public sessions, closed loop days were full as its a trackkay.
Sunninghill sptopped covering the ring last year...and actually EXCLUDE IT!

things change tho so always best to check. You should be alright unless it states "excludes certain toll roads" as sunninghills did.

no particular reason other than more brits going to the ring scared their underwriters.

its not the broker at all.

I am told that you cant just turn up at the ring as there might be a race on or closed for testing.

Does anybody have a link to the calender for 2008 for when it is open as the one I have found only does till the end of this year?

though it might be useful for everyone

thanks Wishy
