TVR racing support (why is there so little)
Discussion
I've been guilty of this also in the past.
But why do so few people goto watch the racing.
I think most people at Rockingham enjoyed watching the racing.
Just wondered why so few people come and watch.
The only race that seems to get good support is Brans Hatch, due to the local meet being changed to Brans Hatch when its on.

It seems to be somewhat of a specialist event in nature and as such, the information is pretty much known in their respective circles
I didnt even know about the TVR at Rockingham on the telly until Id finished watching the F430 Scuderia piece then was greeted by a load of Blackpools finest!!!!!
What the sport needs is a big influx of cash to promote it

The Tuscans were on at Oulton Park this year with a gate price of £12 for an adult (£10 if bought by post in advance) so not exactly overpriced but still there weren't too many Tivs there which is a real pity as the drivers are all keen to talk to people. Hopefully next year will see more going to watch the series.

I think this is a very good question.
There seems a bit of a gulf between the owners of TVR road cars and the TVR drivers in motorsport. I don't think anyone's consciously wanted this; it just seems to have happened. This seems a shame because although I have a road car I'd certainly enjoy watching more TVRs racing.
I went to Rockingham and loved the whole event including the racing. Besides the local club events this year I also went to BNG & the Pre-80s event. These were also great and were on my radar and therefore planned in my calendar. I knew what to expect; lots of TVRs and people to kick tyres and chat with. Even at the Pre-80s event the organisers actively encouraged all TVRs to attend including people like me in a modern car.
I'd certainly feel more like going to see some TVR motorsport if for instance I knew there was an area where TVR road cars could park together, have a mini-meet and a chat as well as watching the racing.
The race meets could always do with more exposure on forums (and not just in the motorsport section).
Anyway that's my thoughts. If there are any future events in or around the East Midlands area I'd be happy to put them in the news section of the East Mids TVRCC website which I update. http://www.tvrcc-eastmidlands.co.uk/ . At the end of the day the more people you tell, the more people you may get.

Hi Tony, your comments are really interesting. Why do you feel there is a gulf between owners of road TVRs and the TVR racers?
I'm not sure where I would fit then, as I'm a TVR road car owner and I race one too, mainly cos I think (like most TVR road car owners) that they're amazing cars.
The Race Series is on the up again now. It has been granted full Championship status again and in 2008 will be part of a high profile new package being run by BRSCC and Dunlop. This will mean double-header races and at mainly the big circuits which I think will attract more spectators again. The grid numbers are rapidly increasing and will comprise of a vast range of TVR models, satisfying most enthusiasts.
Last year, a couple of Regions did indeed arrange a special TVR park up area at the circuits where we raced and that worked really well. A lot of those who came hadn't been to a TVR race for a while and commented on what a great day it was. Anyway, whatever ideas you have to help up its profile would be brilliant as we love it when you guys come and support us. All the best,
Steve

Race organiser and entrants being pro-active with reminders on THIS forum rather than in motorsport forum might help. Even some ads would remind us !
Some guaranteed decent parking would also assist - you don't want to turn up at the circuit in the TVR to find the parking is more suited to a 4x4. If the Tuscan Challenge is the headline race then this would be easier to get from the circuit (as part of the package) than if it is just a support race.
Obviously without a factory to support the series the road car drivers are of greater importance to support it and keep it going, but without some kind of marketing program to keep it in the forefront of our minds it can get easily forgotten about. Its a two way street - remind us and we'll turn up. Keep it undercover and all we get is to read race reviews in Autosport after its happened.
Nearest thing to homepage I can find http://www.brscc.co.uk/tuscan.html

Your right that most postings go onto the motorsports pages but that can easily be put right. BTW, are you a member of the TVR Car Club as their website keeps a pretty close eye on TVR motorsport too. It shows the years race calender, posts race reports, lists the drivers and shows their position within their class during the Season, etc, etc,.Have a look if you're not involved already.

I was going to go to the double header end of season race at Brands (especially as it was my birthday) but ended up having to work

What motorsport in the UK needs is a sensible aproach to pricing. Motorsport in the UK is currently too expensive at all levels. Hence the lack of support.
I attend very few car events these days as in most cases my experience is the racing isn't a good as bikes. But I do attend between 15 and 20 bike racing events from British Superbikes to Grand Prix and I feel the vast majority are well priced, versus what else I could get for the event. I have visited all the major circuits in the UK and I feel for what they provide it is fairly priced. On average a BSB round, with a ticket bought in advance is £22-£24ish. World Superbikes and GP's aside. Some you get a programme, some you don't. You only need one for the season anyway.
I don't think this is overpriced at all, given the invstment that circuits are having to put in to track changes for safety reason, medical services and provisions, and the number of people reqired to manage crowds of 10-30k for a BSB round.
What many people do not realise is that the circuits have to pay the varying sries for them to come, so it costs them for the touring cars, the Superbikes or whichever. This drives a lot of cost, depending on who takes the ticket receipts, which is sometimes not the circuits.
For example, Jonathon Palmer has dropped, and threatened to drop certain series and events due to their demands for cash.
The simple reason I haven't ever seen the TVR's race is that it generally clashes with bike racing for me . ..
I am prepared to drive to Oulton Park from Suffolk twice a year for the bikes, along with Cadwell, Mallory, Thruxton, Brands etc etc but I wouldn't be for the TVR's. Sntterton or Brands maybe, but I wouldn't be going any further for it.
Motorsport is always about the money, the teams haven't got enough, the circuits don't earn enough and the series owners want more. It been the case for years, and it's not going to change. Therefore I think the pricing currently is reflective of supporting what I enjoy watching, and at the moment, and form the crowds I see at Superbikes, it isn't badly priced at all.
If it doesn't clash this year, then I'll try and come along for the first time

There's always a crowd of us at Oulton Park from Blackpool,Lancashire and Cheshire...We enjoy it, and the racers always make us welcome and have a chat. It makes a good day out.
A single race is poor, but if it's double header then great.
But I must say the Super Minis were hilarious in the wet after the Tuscan Challenge in August

Probably because the day as a whole is a bit boring!!, and by that i dont mean the tivs!!,
I was born into a motorsport world and i am not kidding my dad was going for a rallycross title in 1972 and my poor old mum was dragged along, cut a long story short, the ambulance that was there instead of looking after the racers was helping me into the world!!, i guess as i have grown up and seen the motorsport evolution taking place for me its not been good really,
From a driver and spectators point of view i want to go and pay to watch a days racing that is going to make me want to talk to mates about it in the pub during the week, hey bud you should have seen the way guillotine held his griff in a long slide all the way through paddock bend smoke pooring from his tyres etc...., but that is just 20 mins from the day, i regretfully have to admit i havent seen a round of the tiv championship because i begrudge paying for something i dont want to see. yes i want to see the tivs but i dint want formula fords, one make stuff (in this country) front wheel drive stuff, (sorry if that offends but its just pants to watch), even touring cars/formula 1 there just not racing anymore... if you want to pass in a touring car you just cut the corner and t bone the geezer you were passing!!! formula one you let your pit crue at your misses for the night and you win the race...
If i was the organisers of the tiv championship i would be getting/organising really good support races, classic sallons, historics, mod saloons etc.. to go with the tivs, i would also bring several more classes into the frame that would allow more tvr racing, you could still keep what they have if they so fancy to, but how about a road going class and i mean raod going, all you can change is the seat/steering wheel/ and put a cage in it for safety/ you could have 3 classes 400/450/500, drive the car to the meeting race it and drive home, almost like a track day!! run properly you could end up with a whole day of tvr racing how cool would that be........ allow trade stands into the paddocks free of charge for people to look around instead of organisers/circuits charging the earth for them, a tvrcc barby during the lunch break.....
