I've got Citroen mirrors on my S3c, and the other day someone passed comment that they don't have the rubber / plastic rings on them... should they?!? - or are they just "ribbed"?

At the risk of turning this into the "Incorrigible and Podie knob gag" thread

Mine are just ribbed

Your mirrors should be 'ribbed', your suspension should give you a 'rough ride' and your leather should be as fine as 'gossamer'.

If you have one of those air freshner things in the car it should be 'flavoured'

Your engine ideally should be 'extra large'

Yes, black 'O'section rubber rings (about 4 from memory - you will be able to see the grooves where they should run). Same on Griffs bar last 100.

Mine don't have any rubber rings, and the ribbed part is painted. My Dad had a CX many years ago, and I don't remember it having any rubber rings on the mirrors either, although the ribbed part wasn't painted.

Edited to add this picture of the CX mirrors on a McClaren F1 - can't see any rubber rings on that either:

The lightweight cars all lost the rubber rings in the interests of optimum power to weight - slight aerodynamic advantage as well!

They might go astray if the mirrors are resprayed - either lost or broken, eg if the rubber is perished.

Podie - you could sneak along the line at the next MidEssex meeting surreptitiously pinching one ring from each of 8 cars... But seriously, I wonder if there are any O-section drive belts from anything that might fit?

Can I use these CX mirrors on an S3 or does it have to be an S3C ? In my opinion they look better than the standard S3 ones from the photograph.
