Dead flies!

There were enough dead flies on the front of my Tuscan today to feed a small family! But the reason for the post is what's the best way people know to get the shattered insect body off the front of the car and remove all trace of the incident? Tried washing and waxing but the marks are still there. Any ideas?

Yep, insect remover from Halfords. Don't know what's in it but it does work. Except that I lent my bottle to someone at a car show and haven't seen it since...!

I`ve heard it on here before that baby wipes work wonders and without going into gruesome detail, just think what they usually have to do and you`ll agree it must be true!! Strong but kind!

I went for a blap round today and for the first time for weeks I've not had to de-bug.
Call it laziness, but after a run just before the evil acid guts from the little beasts start to eat paint, I wallop over the lift-up section of the bonnet and round the lights with a leather loaded with just hot water. A quick wring and rinse and dry off with the same leather. That usually does the job. If I'm feeling particularly motherly, a swift waxing with Auto Glym and off to bed.

Right, off to Halfords tomorrow for some bug remover, if that doesn't work then its the baby wipes and as a very last resort it's down to the suggestion from wedg1e, though that does seem pretty drastic!

Stick wet kitchen roll to the flies and leave for a bit (as long as the kitchen roll stays wet - longer the better). Then wipe off and flies should be much easier to shift.

Works on the bike anyway.

Another good tip once the bugs have been removed is to:

1) Get a good layer of wax polish on the car - it makes the bugs easier to get off and protects the paintwork from their guts.

2) Always wipe off the bugs at the end of the day with a bucket of warm water - not a full wash - just wipe 'em off with a sponge. That way they never get too bad.

I should like to point out that I manage (1) reasonably often and (2) only when I remember...

I agree with the wet paper towel approach. It really does work (and is alot cheaper than the bug removal stuff). I use it all the time (particularly good for bike helmet visors but works on paint just as well). If it's very warm then keep wetting the towels until the bugs just wipe off with a damp cloth.

I also agree with Don's two points. The first one is especially good if you use one of the really good wax polishes (Zymol and the like) as even road tar just washes off them.

Is there not another thread about sticky things for number plates to send off to the RSPB so they can count and identify the mortalities. Something to do with loss of food stuff for birds.
Maybe you could find out if these are harmful to paintwork and you could stick them all over the front of the car, just peel them off at the end of your drive.

Turtlewax one was crap on the Griffith ... 1500 miles and a trackday and I'm having to use Aircraft Grade evaporating solvent and wet wipes to get the little buggers off ...

Surprised you dont loose a few hundred flys in them stone chips how do u tell the difference Johno

get the kids to eat them, pound for pound they contain 100% more protein than . Or use autoglym instant show shine. Turtle wax bug remover works better on the wheels once cleaned.
