T-Cutting a Chimp

Muppet at my car park did me a `favour' and cleaned my Chimp, scratching the freak out of it. Can I safely t-cut a starmist silver finish? Anyone got any tips on what I understand is quite an arduous task? Thanks in advance...

I understand T-Cut to be fairly abrasive, I would try something like Autoglyms 'Super Resin' polish first, finished with their 'High Gloss' polish. They also do a more abrasive product which is the 'Paint Restorer' if the Super Resin didn't work.

I am sure you will get advice around more specialist products

There is a product from 3M called Finesse-IT which is probably what you need. I'd be careful about using T-Cut as it contains nasties such as ammonia (I believe). Not sure what colour your car is, but I assume it is a dark colour if the scratches show so much - be careful and test whatever you buy on an inconspicuous area first.

wouldn't t-cut badly affect your "chimp's" skin and fur? That's assuming of course you could hold it down for long enough....

I've just T-Cut the hull of my GRP boat and it's looking great now with no bad effects... but not sure I'd use it on my Chimaera...

Chimp's been drinking the t-cut formula, by the look of him. Or just had his first drive in a passenger seat on a nice twisty b-road...

try chrome/metal polish as its not as abrasive as t-cut ,but then it depends how deep the scratches are, i have used holts chrome polish to very good effect on some light scratches..

Cant see a problem in using T-Cut on a very infrequent basis.

If it is a metallic finish or similar, do NOT use standard T-cut!!!, will create horrible haze marks and more lines!!, you need to use either T-cut Metallic, or a similar one, Auto Glym paint restorer is metallic friendly.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I will be carefully perusing the Halford's shelves and avoiding the T-Cut route.

I think T-cut works by dissolving the paint. If the finish on your car is built up from several layers of paint or lacquer or whatever, then T-cut may end up blending them and therefore ruining the finish. I'd test any of these products on some bit of the paintwork that is normally hidden from view ... like under the bonnet.

I believe Farcella? make something called g3 or gsomething-or-other. It's what the trade use.

Much like the difference between parkers and glass's, but with paint.

Nah, chimp's an intelligent furry animal. Image doen't quite transfer to a Chimaera, IMHO.
