Ladies and Gentlemen - It was a horrible dark day down here in Cornwall early on Thursday morning, 6th December, having to take my Griff into work instead of once more malfunctioning VW Polo. It was less than 5 minutes later that I had the dismal experience of being unable to do anything as my prized Griff slid down the road. Thought I'd got away with it until I felt and heard the sound we, who love our vehicles, dread to experience. My Griff had slewed down the road coming into contact the gorse and grass verge sideways and then rapidly decelerated to stationary by two steel poles, sunk into concrete, holding up a road narrows sign. I sought advice from my friend, a TVR mechanic and he suggested I contacted Webb’s Autos in Bristol. After looking them up on the Net and contacting them they arranged to transport my poor battered car to their workshop and I'm now waiting for a quote from them as how much it will cost to repair the damage.
The most part of the damage is front end but the nearside exhaust from the silencer has been bent underneath and has caused some damage to the rear valance - there appears to be no damage to the chassis.
I'm asking anyone out there if they have any experience of this amount of damage or any experience of Webb’s Autos. I don't want my prized possession to be written off and I hope somebody out there has some good advice or wise counsel.

Really very sorry to hear that. Hard to judge without seeing the car but if the chassis, engine and drive train are unaffected, I'd say it's unlikley to be a write off, from an economic standpoint.

Other than 'accident repairs' is just one of five things they advertise, I've no idea about Webbs. But up here in London/the south east, good things are said about:

Ok, long way from Bristol and even further from Cornwall, but if it turns out to be more complicated/expensive than at first thought, might be worth knowing about these. Hope you see the way forward very soon. Nick.

I had a front end repaint done by Webbs and to say they are amature is an understatement.

Thr car came back with runs etc and Jason Webb was so hard to deal with in the end after he let me down on numerous occasions in repainting the car I took it elsewhere.

I wouldn't let Webbs paint my fence.

Looking on the bright side you are well enough to post on PH about it so it could have been a lot worse smile

Would be at the top of my list, I was up there last week and they have the setup to repair anything they want well. I saw plenty examples of their work whilst there(just nosing about on my own) and I couldn't fault them. They also have several TVRs there in various stages of repair. They have also done trade work for a good TVR "main dealer" for as long as I can remember.

I have no connection with them at all, just my opinion of them.

I spoke to 6 TVR repairers recently including Webbs, they would not be my first choice, PM me if you want to know why.

Good luck, hope it all works out for you.

Sorry about your 6th December crash but thankfully nobody's hurt - I once had an accident on 6th December only that time somebody died.

Sorry to hear about the damage and glad to hear your ok.

I've had some work done by Webbs and they are not too bad, I have heard of some people not having a great experince with them but so far all the work they have done for me has been fine. Hope it all gets sorted.

Don't know whereabouts in Cornwall you are but I recently had the outriggers on my griffith replaced by Paul at Colin Hill Motors in Kelly Bray (01579 382826). He owns a chimaera and had pretty much totally rebuilt it after buying it after a pretty big smash (new chassis). They did a top job on my car, certainly cost less than the independants I spoke to and Paul seemed like a nice bloke too.

He had a cerbera in that they'd resprayed that looked very good to me and he tells me he's worked on other TVRs so he might be worth a call.

Had my T350 sorted by these chaps (they are local to you too). I had £20k's worth of damage when I was deliberately run off the road by a stolen car, they put it good as new again!

Why thankyou Graham; apart from the 'gent, trustworthy and guy' yikes, I'm all the things you mention.

Yep, I've spoken to Stew who's understandably upset by last weeks event (I think he has some shots to upload). I can't conceive the predominantly negative reponse about Webbs'd easing his thoughts though. As they're Bristol way I can always pop over and keep an eye on progress for him should he need it as I'm in that part of the world once a week. I'm sure it'll be back together all bright and sparkley for the 'Growl 08' though.

Fellow Pistonheads,
I can't thank you all enough for reading my posting and replying with speed and candour. A special thanks to those who've worked hard out of the public domain (You know who you are!) with their guidance. I'm still having some trouble posting my photos but will try again soon.Update with more info soon!

It looks as if they need a "warning, dangerous sign ahead" sign. smile

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident, but cars can be fixed as long as you are not hurt. Hope this won't put you off, and that you will spend a while working out what went wrong and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Hi im new to ph i have seen alot of tvrs out there some with about 35000 miles upwards. How long do these engines last b4 rebuild?
Seems to me the warranties are a bit of a minefield like if a piston fails they will replace only one not the other 5.
thinking of buying a cat d in the future a tuscan need contacts who can inspect car 4 me when right car comes up and any other stuff regarding replacing parts which couid fail on engine saving rebuild. cheers
