(posted hear as fittrd to Griffs and Chims)

Just got my SP12 Wheels delivered today for my Griff, well package, great finish and come with wheel nuts, no problems fitting the fronts however, I can’t fit the rear wheels with the center caps in place as the drive shaft ends stick out to far, am I missing something?

Just ring Silverstone, they'll sort it.

I am sure they will but if others that have them have a fix, I can finish the job tonight, which would be nice.

The 'fix' is simple... the few threads of the axle that protrude past the lock nut outer face need to be cut off (hacksaw and file, not grinder), then the cap needs notching internally to cler the nut 'corners' (just a smidge does it). It is a tight fit but does all go together snugly.

Hacksaw the ends off the axles, your kidding right? These wheels are supposed to be designed for car, no way I'm cutting bits off the car to fit a center cap. Will see what they say tomorrow.

I spoke to Matt at SP and this is the mod that needs to be done to fit the rear centre cap. You only need to cut a small amount off!

Didn't think you'd want to do it past 11 at night hehe
It's not as drastic as it sounds and think of the weight you're savingwink

I have the Team Dynamics ProRace wheels (identical design to the SPs) and had no problems fitting the centre caps.
Could you pick up some caps from them?

Think you'll find the offsets/geo are different on the SP which puts the cap in a different place relative to the axle/nut

Aah good point.
I wanted 17s on the rear but kept the offset exactly as factory but that could be the difference?

Didnt have a chance to talk to SP today, no signal where I am working. Seems like its OK to cut the axles down a bit so will sort it out tonight, I do wonder why they couldnt make the caps a bit deeper?

Dear Silverstone,
I recently bought a set of your SP12 wheels for my TVR. The rears do not fit, however I understand a small mod required -something I have neither the tools nor the confidence to undertake. I was not aware of this when purchased and I wondered, if I drop off my car you could undertake the mod FOC while I wait.

Would be ideal, however it is a 440 mile round trip, I can do the job no problem, but I am going to see if I can extend the cap first, got to be a better bet.

normally if the center caps dont fit the wheels are the wrong offset for the car. check on the back of the wheel for a stamped et number that will be your wheel offset and the check with th supplier.

The same thing applies when fitting Spiders to some Cerberas. I used a grinder on mine no problem only took a few mins. A hack saw would take for ever and it didnt get that hot with a grinder.
