I asked the same question 2 years ago and got mixed responses.
I bought my Chimaera from James Agger (who has an excellent reputation) and have been completely happy with it, he's a top bloke who sells and sources TVR's.thumbup

i sold my car though him when i had to due to financial circumstances.

on one hand, he's a git as he got shot of my beloved cerbara.

on the other hand i had to get rid of it quickly, and he provided instant interest in the car and seemed to check it over thoroughly.

Rob found my Griff 500 for me about 10 months ago. It has proved to be exactly as he described pre purchase having done 4 track days and a 3000 mile endurance rally around Spain in September. I would use him again to sell and buy if and when required.

Have nothing but praise for Rob, He sourced our Cerb exactly a year ago. We got what his report stated, and have since completed the work it required.

I found my own Griff, but got Rob to check it over. He was very helpfull, he gave me a lift from the station to the car, gave it a thorough check over, road test and even helped in the haggling process, and i bought the car.

The car is still going strong and the people who service it for me think it is a good example.

Cheers

I'm going to say just one final thing on this subject - remember that it is bloody easy to check a good car over and pass it off as an excellant example, cue a happy new owner singing praises as to the inspection etc.
Where the fee is really earned is when an inspection throws up problems or even recommends you don't buy the car.

I bet they all had 'really strong engines' too.

Another vote for Agger, he does the job in finding good ones.

I've not met Rob, I have met James many times and bought my latest Cerbie from him. He's sound!

Agger might not always be the cheapest but he will save you a shitload as opposed to buying a duff car.

Sorry but is this a thinly veiled criticism of Rob Ingleby? Only ask as i recently used his services and as yet have not viewed the car he inspected on my behalf.
Do you know something i do not? if you do why not come out and say it...

Yes, that's a fair point. In life, you often get what you pay for. In my case,I'm a mechanical numpty so it was important to get a sound car. I was able to have a thorough look at the car on the ramps at a local garage etc. I've also had calls from James to see how I'm getting on with it etc., so I'm very happy biggrin

Because it's more fun to gang up with the clique and chip away at a reputation with innuendo it seems. This is getting to be a pretty unpleasant place recently frown
