TVR All The Cars - Iain Ayre
Discussion
I too got a copy for chrimbo, seems OK but I've not read it all yet (a bad sign?).
The most interesting bits for me are the chapters on the early cars up to the Tasmins, don't know how accurate the text is as I knew little about these cars before reading.
The photo's seem to be mostly reprints of press packs and owners shots. I really enjoyed all the photo's taken inside the factory though - they give a great impression of just how basic and hands on the build process was.
The sections on the T cars and Sags seemed a bit of an after thought (even a relative newcomer like myself noticed some errors).
It was obviously written by an enthusiast with a passion for the marque but a few sections read more like one mans opinion than an objective viewpoint.
Still, its nice to read a book about my favorite cars and its not that expensive on Amazon etc.
I'd give it 6/10.
Your thoughts Daftlad?

i also got a copy of this for Christmas (well, just a few days before to be precise!) a very thorough book and a nice clear read too, doesen't overload you with figures, technical stuff etc
very nicely presented too with some great pics (that Mr Sheen don't half get about!
) a great buy and a good tome for TVR fans/owners to leave on the coffee table IMO

If you are not, have a quick read of that section and ask your self where he got those facts from? The book was obviously not "proof read" by any one who knew that much about TVRs imo, and when i get round to reading the rest if i find other chapters contain more inaccurate information then i doubt i will pick it up again
So first impressions...nice photos and bo

I know it' s not a new book, but just got mine for Crimbo and wondered what do the TVR peoples think of it as a representative model by model history of TVR.
Apologies if it's been asked previously - I tried a search but with nothing conclusive.
John, How many TVR's Have you had? And you are asking us? Don't be daft Daftlad

Thanks for the responses. My thoughts are much in line with those posted regards the errors - they are plentiful. The quote relating to wet sump Tamoras are typical of his very lazy research. The howlers run in excess of 2 per chapter.
The pictures are fine, but it would have been nice to see shots of a proper V8 Tuscan and Griffith instead of the offerings..... Again, lazy.
Overall I would have scored the book as a 3/10.
I look foward to the new Filby book, which should be out in Spring, and will be a very good read if his previous offerings are any indication.

Hi Neill
Had a phone call from Peter Filby a couple of weeks ago to verify some info he took from me at Rockingham. In conversation he said the book will be due to be released for print next spring. He said that after Rockingham he has gained a lot more info,(not from me may I add)which will increase the books size from 250 originaly planned pages to around 350 pages.I can imagine that each time he comes across something new he has to rewrite to fit it in.
Hope this helps.

Have also received 'tvr all the cars ' this xmas , some interesting info in it including a turbocharged cerbera , a 500 seac , not sure wether these cars were actually built . Wish someone could print a big book about Tvr which had lots of technical infomation about the models , facts seem very scarce ! Very little on the seac's and no explanation as to why the speed 12 cerbera wasn't produced as a road car , that would have been brilliant !
