Hi all,
I went to look at a saggy today, talked to a not very nice salesman, very up his own arse, anyway i said i would like to buy there silver car and i have got a car to P.X, with this his face dropped and said "i will give you a p.x price, and when you pick yourself up off the floor" come back and we will talk.
The offer was £23750 for a 2006 tuscan convert in red ( bad colour he said to sell on) 2 owners 6,000,miles ftvrsh. BUT he said "we will sell it for you for £39,995 but we want £6,ooo plus VAT commision".
He told me that ALL his car are S.O.R so i am wondering are ALL HIS TVRs £6,000 to much.

Edited by Mr Will because: You were a bit close to the mark on "name and shame" there and we did not like your choice of rhyme

Its not just that particular dealership employing those tactics.

It's always hard to put a car in p-ex against a SOR car. The dealer will give you basic trade price money at best (assuming he has the money to spend!)

Sagaris market is very strong at the moment, Tuscan S less so. You're up against it I'm afraid.

Just taken a look at parkers :

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuatio...

It looks correct - non franchised dealer 36K selling price but it says (-3K) for trade in)..

OK - he is playing hardball and trying for an extra 3K ..

Personally - I'd play hard ball back..

SOR is not un-usual .. and it's very unlively anyone will give you 35K cash .. in fact trying to get a cash deal you get really screwed .. 23K might be spot on ..

I'd go in the and deal for a 1K deal on the SOR trade in .. and if you cannot get agree ment .. then give him you number and say - you have until tomorrow..

as you are off to another Jag dealer..

And as you dont like the guy - demand to talk to another dealer principle and it will hurt his comission (nil) if you end up doing a dela with his team mate..

Great advice....if you want to wind yourself up and get no where.

Limited number of Sags for sale. In this case, dealers have the upper hand. You are stuffed I suspect, unless you want to wait and sell private, or bite the bullet. You are not unique - I know of a few Tuscan S owners tyring to deal for Sags and not being able to stomach the numbers.

that's poor IMHO, good friend has a mint 05 Sag, best he was offered was 30k, he declined that offer, dealer rang him back and said he would stick the Sag in his showroom and would advertise it for 42/43k. He would expect to get 40k and then give my mate 35k.

He declined that as well and is now keeping the car.

BAck to waht I said about dealers not wanting (or not having the money) to buy cars in January.

I think the hardest thing to stomach is that 2005 Sag is worth 5-10K more than a 2006 Tuscan S. Argue away, but its fact.

Maybe need to rember that Tuscan Ss were punted out at 45-46K new in 2006 when Sags were 50-55 and then some in 2005 to 2006.

30k was the best he was offered, he was offered a lot less by other dealers.

I would try a few more dealers you just might get a better offersmile but selling private would be best.smile

Try ringing Mark at the TVR Centre and explain how you were handled. You might get a more favourable response.

Now that TVR is a dead parrot is there such a thing a dealer?
What function do they serve other than inflated prices.

I would not piss on the one that I bought my car from if they were on fire (alhough I bought 2 new TVRs from them when they had another ownwer and was very contented with their servive on the Thames, thanks Adrian).

There is nothing wrong with the car, which they sold for the owner on a commision basis only, but what they did to me during the sales left a bad taste and was sheer pikey sales technique wich costs me a thousand pounds.

However, they lost my and and some of my friends who are TVR owners service business. which is more than that fecking sales manager gained in his commision that month (principale beware).

Good dealers still provide a service an Indy will not if you have car that is in theory, under warranty.

You may suggest they inflate prices, some owners would suggest they keep prices from going into free-fall.

One swallow etc...they are not all the same.

Spooky. I spoke to the very same guy myself this week, about a px against a Tuscan. He has a very strange manner about him, which he is very proud of. I have worked in sales for 15 years, and suspect that if i took his approach i would not be very succesful, i wonder how he manages to sell anything.

The guys in the service department, however, are just the opposite. Very helpful, knowledgable and friendly.

Vote with your feet yes

Cant see what all the fuss is about here, Would you shell out thousands of pounds in cash for a car that could sit on your forecourt for 6 months depreciating ?. Car dealers need to feed there families as well.

I don't think you have had a bad deal there, the problem is you did not hear what you wanted to hear. Sell privately and you will see how hard it is. Once you have sold you will have a pocket of cash to bargain hard on your desired car just make sure its not a Sagaris as cash wont make any difference either. Your trying to off load a car that has a minuscule market and in its most depreciative age. Wait until its at least 3 years old and then the depreciation pain eases off.

How about a private ad - selling Tuscan but wants to swap for a Saggy..

Perhaps there is someone in PH land that yerns to go topless again..

I've always found PH'ers much more friendly and less insulting than garages with acres of chrome and glass to pay for !
