Got my licence back in March 2003 for same offence - caught next morning going to work...... 12 month Ban - plenty of time to save up for my Chim 450 I bought in May. Norwich Union Direct are charging me a shade over £850 for the year fully comp with protected NCB. I am 30 and my girlfriend is 25 (didn't seem to want anything extra for her though)......
I Live in Aberdeen though and apparently the premium is not as high here.
I was advised if I came from Leeds it would be twice that much.
My 33 yr old mate is insuring a 4ltr Griff for £450 - no convictions....

I had a 56 day ban for speeding - but no points - so that I still have 6 points now from 2 previous speeds (was 9 at the time) I had a WRX stolen and my Voyager vandalised but all on protected NCB. 38, Essex area and paying 1400 with N.U. direct...

Normal (ie speeding) convictions lapse after 3-4 years, after which they're not counted. I don't know if that's the same for DD. Try a specialist company like Manning or Sunninghill. They said that up to 6 points didn't interest them - I appreciate DD is rather more serious but they may be more lenient than a 'normal' insurer.

The tragedy of the whole situation is that you're probably a better risk now than you were - so should pay less. So much for a free country...

Insurance will be tough because there is currently a general clampdown on bad risks on TVRs. So ring around. It will be expensive I would imagine. As for info about buying, there are Griff and Chimaera buyers's guides on my website.

IIRC DD stays for 10 years.

You'll find that an older Griff or Chimp will be cheaper to insure and quite possibly qualify for a 'classic' or 'future-classic' policy. So maybe you shoudl consider a slightly earlier/cheaper one, saving cash for the premium and any 'contingencies'.

well spotted...lol

to make myself a bit clearer - when I went to court I already had 9 points and I thought I'd get 3 more and an automatic ban (and then all the points are wiped!) but no, I kept the 9 and they gave me a 'ban only' and massive fine - how nice... 3 of the 9 have since expired!
