Yes, i've not been driving it a lot this winter and as a result I had a flat battery. I went for about a 70 mile round trip journey in it to put some charge in it, but it only put a little in.

I have this thing that came with the car....

...will this put some charge in the battery? It's been plugged in to the ciggy lighter since Saturday, I don't suppose it'll catch on fire, will it? yikes

That is an Airflow battery conditioner.
I have been using one for years , on my TR6 and now on the Griff.
It wont pick up a flat battery, they are good for keeping a good battery ,err ,good.

You probably know, if you turn off the mains electricity with the unit connected to the car, the LEDs on the left light to tell you the battery condition.

And no it wont catch fire, the power from it is only small.

No, even if all the lights light when you turned off the mains, then you should leave it connected.
Then when you next want to use the car, the battery wont be flat !

Seem to remember ,when I bought mine ,the claim was that it could be left on for months !

What you needed to do was plug in the Airflow battery conditioner that came with your car.

I have a battery charger if you want to borrow it to get the battery fully charged. If you can get to Dorchester tomorrow or morning on Saturday you can pick it up from my brother's workplace in the Casterbridge Ind Est.

Just bring it to Cheddar on Sunday!

Thanks for the offer Graham. I do have a battery charger but I hate anything to do with the battery in a Griff, access is a right PITA.

doesn't it do the battery a world of harm if it's fully discharged? Perhaps the battery is a bit knackered now because it used to go a month without being used no problem,

...and another thing, call me a thicko if you like, but how does it sort the battery out from being plugged into the lighter?

lighter is permanently live, any live circuit will pass current back to the battery!

Aye, 'tis a dead handy point to remember when your battery is dead flat, the battery is in the boot and the boot has an electric release rolleyes
Is it only the V8S that suffers this particularly TVR thought out piece of design concept ? - Oh I know about the other route too.

I leave the car in the garage with the boot open, just in case! smile

Apparently you can put a charger on somewhere near the alternator under the bonnet (obviously) for enough charge to open the boot.

Where's the battery in a Griff then?

You can also get solar powered battery conditioners (AccuMate is it?) that you can leave on your dash if you park on a road or away from a mains outlet. I think Maplin sell them actually.
