I've just had a 12,000 mile service carried by a reputable independant TVR specialist garage, is it common practice to drop all the oil from the engine because on checking the oil and phoning the garage, i find they have only replaced half the oil? are they just fobbing me off? as they say this is TVR practice.

Sounds like a load of bull to me....

Look at the schedule for a 12k service from TVR Power here
As they're charging for 11 litres of oil I assume that's a full change.

If its a SP6 engine you can only get half the old oil out as its dry sump. Unless you strip the engine that is...

There are 2 plugs to drain all the oil out, only take one out - only take out 1/2 the oil....

Most car type chicks are a little robust, you never really know whether to kiss them or fight them.

Well some of guys obviously are doing it wrong....

Dom@Power and Ian do it this way...if only one plug comes out then you only drain oil tank. Take the other out and the oil comes out of the engine....

Just sat and watched Ian do a 12K on a T350 removing the 2 plugs.

So there you have it.

You'll need to upgrade to a Chablis at least!

BTW in the war women had their hair short because you only get it caught in a lathe, fanbelt or propeller once!

Why is this that some dealers would only change 6 or 7 litres rather than the full 11 if it's just a case of undoing an extra sump plug?

I thought it was because it was "difficult" to get the remaining engine oil out?

Anyone know?

Sadly the answer is more likely to be a question about life in general rather than an engineering one.

You need a syringe to get the oil out of the engine's sump because the sump plug is not in the base of the sump.

Yep, you've got it, some companies only change the oil in the tank for a nice cheap service. Good eh? nuts
