Can you really pick up a solid Tam for under 20K?

If you look in the classifields you can see some real bargains at the moment, tamoras have never been that popular, but say the experts the best handling tvr ever made,,,,,,,,,,,, For £20,000 you should get a fantastic one if you do your homework and ask lots of questions on the T350,saggy,tamora forum...........

i'll get cruisified for this..... but i consider the the Tamora as TVRs replacement for the Griff.....

albeit if you consider the Griff prices and their depreciation/age.... the griff is the better investment...... say 60% in 16 yrs for an average 92 car

The Tamora is my favourite. I drove one, courtesy of Dream Machines, in 2004 and, despite driving many TVRs since, it remains the best. It did everything so well. The theory was that I would take it out for and hour and a half but, after two hours or so, I phoned DM to apologise and i was told I could keep it until closing time. When I returned the chap said that most people, once they get behind the wheel, are overwhelmed and he knew that I would not be back on time.

As to whether it is the 'new Griff' or not, I would not like to say. However, point to point it's a much faster car. At speed (I'm told) the aerodynamics are much better than earlier TVRs and the thing sticks to the road.

The steering, engine, clutch and gearbox are all so well matched to the chassis setup.

I've heard the looks criticised but whenever I stopped to take pictures, I generated a crowd, once in the middle of nowhere where five German students suddenly appeared.

The car is a tour de force.

I have to agree with the previous poster that the Griff is probably the better 'investment' although a 20K one will probably still drop in price initially but it is likely that the base line will be higher than the Tam. Nothing is certain though.

I've always been wary of 'bargain priced' cars as, if they are cheap, there's normally a very good reason. However, I remember checking a Tam at the lamented Gatwick TVR that was the same price as a Griff some three years older and, as the sales chap said, the only reason is was so cheap was the fact that, in three weeks, they'd had no enquiries whereas there'd been three calls on the Griff after two days of advertising.

He said, "If only I could get them to drive it. Then it'd go soon enough."

I have resisted driving Tamoras as I know I cannot to afford to buy nor run one. I'm happy with my Chim and I want to stay that way.

Yep I love the front the inside but dont like the backside ! but it does look modern when compared the chimaera, but I am with you Derek on this one, what I d wonder is will the styling look dated over time, the griff still looks good for a oldish car

Slap your wrists and get a reality check. They are a cute car, unpopular (suspect its the rear), and speed 6 powered. Personally, the Griff is streets ahead but each to their own.

I was at CASTLE TVR a few months ago and they had a Tamora for sale for just over £15k. It was yellow with black interior and a dash that looked like it had been covered in the same material on my plastic cheap steel toe capped boots! I forget any of the important details as I didn't pay much attention as I thought it looked hideous. I don't suppose it still there though at that price however, as Im sure it would have floated someones boat. (I still wouldn't have swapped it for my 10 year old Chimaera though)

For 20k you can get yourself a beauty of a Tam, if you search and check around. Standard sp6 problems and worries of course but then having had one for six months now i love it and have not had any problems at all.

As to people comparing them to the griffs and chimps, point to point its a better car (drive them back to back and you will see the difference) and as to the looks,i get really fed up with people knocking it on these forums, ok the bum might not seem to match up with the front, but personally i like it! They handle wonderfully and really show all the development that went into all the T cars generally, next to a Tam, a Chimp or Griff(or even an early Tuscan?)really feels and shows its age.

And of course a far better interior.

Much more long winded then i intended, sorry.

Just do it.wink

I have to say having owned three Griff 500s and great cars they were, I did think they were the best thing since sliced bread.
However you move on in my case to the Tamora and boy oh boy its streets ahead of the Griff 500 in all departments, the factory RR Tam I own at the moment is just superior to any car I've ever driven its all black (mystic pearl)and looks stunning from any which way and its a convertible.Only five RR factory cars built too.

How does it compare to other 'new' TVRs?
