I literally have a bucket full of these as a by product of my interest in the 14cux ecu.

Hmmmmm - looks like they could be appearing on Ebay shortly.

£99 including postage, I could make & post these for £1 a piece and 5 minutes of my time. Maybe I should get into the re-chipping business.

NB: I was once asked by Bill Blydenstein of Dealer Team Vauxhall fame whether I would set up an ECU re-chipping business for him. Nice and honourable man, who helped take Vauxhall to the world rally championship. I said no, though.

1. Hence my original comment of muppet.

2. He 'ain't sold it yet and I don't think that he will.

I think he's a muppet if he can't sell it.

But if he can turn £1 into £100 then he's the one pulling the strings, and the purchaser is the muppet...

It was a sh1t show, anyway!

He's trying to rip off Tiv owners who don't know what these chips are.

Jumping on the MA bandwagon.

He's trying to pass a standard fuel map chip off as a modified map chip and grossly overpricing it.

Think you can still get these from a dealer for around £30 and that's a rip off as well.

Or maybe I'm wrong and it's a bargain.

So could I, but I'd be losing money and infringing copyright.

Yeah, but I can get EEPROM's for nothing and copyright is rarely enforced on such things...

TVR is no more..... so what copyright?

Presumably no longer enforcable.

To be a little pedantic, they're EPROMS, not EEPROMS! Whilst I agree with your point about copyright infringements being rarely enforced, I know from experience that sometimes they are.

TVR might not currently be making cars but the TVR companies still exist!

If someone was to copy the chips and sell them on eBay for example, then good luck to them, but the law would not be on their side. On the other hand, selling an original bytewide containing a TVR bitmap (as in this topic) shouldn't cause any problems. It all comes down to how much anyone is prepared to pay for it.

Surely you are only entitled to call the person who buys it a muppet, whatever your views on the topic? Offering things for sale at high prices on e-bay is not exactly unusual..

Still going over my head .. the guy's got genuine TVR chips (which are modded over std range rover chips and I can't see that he's misleading anyone with the advert) .. the chips are secondhand but the data doesn't change so no problem there. I think a new chip from TVR Power is about 80 pounds plus vat and a bit of postage, so at worst the guy is guilty of selling a s/hand chip for the price of a new one but that certainly doesn't make him a muppet IMO.

Well I've seen Mark Adam's one sell for £££.

Also its less of a rip off than somone selling a 10p resister as a 5-10% power boost kit.

I'm not sure if these Eprom have any protection on them or maybe that only posible of the later MPU's

as said he's selling a genuine sechand unit, under ebay rules you can't sell coppied items. so you may have a problem selling yours. also you would need to get the uprated code, if the EPROMs are locked.

The TVR eproms are not locked, and dead easy to copy as industry standard devices, although they have long been out of production, there are plenty still around,.(yes at £1 each !) You can also wipe them and reprogram them. The Mark Adams chips are scrambled, and although I can crack them, Im not desclosing how. He is just trying to make a living, same as the rest of us, and best of luck to him.I would worry about the various versions of microcode fitted the the 14cux over the years, and this "one size fits all is" a dangerious approach to take. As for the code, who would own the copyright, as 90% of is still the origional Lucas code? I doubt TVR could ever claim it to be theirs. It would also be easy enough to alter some of the code in a map you dont use, so at least the overall checksum data would be different, then no one could ever prove it as a direct copy.

eeprom eprom what's the difference apart from an e. And the electrically erasable bit. Oh, and the pin count. And the eeprom is serial but the eprom isn't. But apart from that, what have the Romans ever done for us?

so, a clear profit and offer of 5 times the amount you claim to make this for, and you ignore it

so, who is the muppet

you see the point? if you can make it and sell it so much cheaper, but you wont, then people have little choice really do they
