INTRAX I didn't realise....
Discussion
Spent most of yesterday getting Pauls latest specified and built Intrax fitted to the Cerbera at Austec. Including fitting and a meticulous full Geo setup it was around 5 hours work. Fit set up run set up run set up etc. All whilst I smoked a pack of Marlboro, drunk umpteen cups of coffee and annoyed Tom on the progress. But by feck was it worth the wait, you bet
.
I drove it home last night and thought 'this is good' after a 2 hour journey in the dark with the senses heightened by the candles at the front of the car being blown out by any passing breezes (TVR lights, that's another topic
), even so, the speed it could carry without worrying my 'seat of the pants' detector was a pleasant surprise.
Full of schoolboy excitement I took it out for run on my favourite local roads this morning and thought 'this is more than good, its sublime'
. I never thought a Cerbera could handle so well. Up until now I've had old TVR originals, albeit slightly shot away and saggy bordering on the very dangerous with all that power to put down. To more recently a set Avo adjustables, which to be honest I thought were more than OK, particularly after the originals, but for handling the power and controlling the rear end I had to adopt a strict point and squirt style and the nose was a little too understeery (poss just geo).
I cannot believe I now have the ability to change direction whilst still on the power, which is awesome, some might say almost like any other normal high powered car out there, but nit TVR's
. The ride is firm but is still very compliant and no less comfortable. Its almost if I can have my cake and eat it
. Quite simply I am blown away
.
I went from standard to Nitron on my last TVR, a powerful V8S, and was very impressed with that and V8S's are very chuckable, but this is another league of handling to me, I suppose a lot comes from confidence which up until now I never had with the Cerb. I obviously am no racing driver (no need to confirm this point) but I think these will flatter me
.
I'm running default 25 clicks front and 17 clicks rear on the 50 click range (from soft) which Tom thinks is a good starting point for the road. Anyone else got them fitted and played with the clicks and found a better fast road setting.
The only down side I can see is I can now enter the scenery at the side of the road faster

Forgot to mention whilst there on Friday Dave Martin says, 'there's someone here who wants to talk to you', I got passed the phone to speak to David Vizzard
to discuss intakes for the Cerbera
almost as big a thrill as the car being fettled, but not quite once I'd driven it
.
I understand for the open day he will give a chat/presentation, not sure how that's going to work out as there might be more people generally interested in that than are for the open day and TVR's.

A good point to hang back on the modification front for me. I am waiting with great interest to see what recommendations come from Mr. Vizzard joining the team. Qudos to Austec.

Hmmm..those thousand miles seem to be taking a long time ...your not trying hard enough
, sorry I missed you at the Sunday Service yesterday.I think the credit card machine is pining for you as it keeps bleeping & printing out slips with 'feed me Fubes' on them

Pricier than Nitrons...not sure about Ohlins
and performance wise?As for performance, all I can say is that of all the sets that have been fitted so far the feedback has been very positive like the OP.
A complete set retail from £1400+vat. Fitting & geometry additional. As these are bespoke we have to allow 2-3 weeks from when an order is placed.
At least it means now Harry W's engine is run in he can now put the power down without feeling he is about to do some hedge trimming

and performance wise?As much as an improvement I noticed moving from my saggy old shocks to the AVOs, the INTRAX where, IMO, as much an improvement again.
I posted on a few threads last year about them, in particular commenting that, IMO, the INTRAX saved my bacon on more than one occassion at the Ring last year. They make an average driver like myself almost look like he/she knows what they are doing

How do the Intrax compare to the Nitrons and Ohlins, also price wise?
Like Fubes I've only standard and Avo's to compare it with on the Cerb. Although I would say the step up in performance to be as far again as the initial step up is no mean achievement. As I posted in the start, I went to Nitrons with the V8S and was very impressed, no qualms with them at all, I'm more impressed this time with the Cerb and Intrax but it isn't quite like for like.
