pc plod and small number plates...
Discussion
just like to thank the lincs constab for their diligent approach to the letter of the law.
coming back from boston i was pulled by an un marked 5 series so that i could be told what a naughty boy i was for having a small plate on the front of my cerb
i was told that if i am caught a further 2 more times and the car will be issued a Q plate regiatration!!!
have any of you heard of this before?
listen, i know its illegal but in the grand scheme of things its so insignificant, i cant believe people consider chasing cars and pulling them up for small number plates a job well done
he actually turned around on the A52 and came after me... well done lads
good to see the police have got their priorities in order!
cant wait to pay another £2.5k in tax this month to fund their daily jaunt around the country lanes
grumpy old man or what?!

there is some legislation about numberplates being of a size to fit the provided mount,
in the case of jap imports that means a square plate on the rear and on the front of some you can get away with a very small plate to just cover the thin mount that is on the bumper.
I used to have a copy printed out in my glovebox back in my 300zx days!
as far as Q plates go, sounds like nonsense.

I agree it sounds some what petty, but if they are driving an unmarked 5 series then they no doublt will be traffic officers, as such doing what they are paid to do.Well on the Griff no front plate at all is worth -10 degrees, (Don't ask how I know
) a smaller but legal one is worth -5 degrees. With a car that has marginal cooling at the best of times it's worth getting the plate as small as possible. Personally I'd prefer a stick on one but
are just so f
king petty these days it doesn't seem worth the aggro. It's down to luck as to how many characters and ones there are in your reg number as to how small you can make your plate and remain legal.
I do however have a cunning ruse for this year involving a micro front plate, a fully legal one and some velcro!

I got pulled in my Cerb the other day for some other naughty act, anyway they went over the car fully and didn't even mention the front plate - which is only about 12" wide x 3" high. In actual fact, they both said what a nice motor it is
Guess it's all down to the discretion of the plod pulling you over.
I wish more people would get nicked for re-spacing and under sized plates.
If you need to run one on a Griffith then your cooling system needs an overhaul or you've modified to run 400bhp, which I doubt, try changing for a cooler stat.
I had one made, and then realised that I objected to it whole heartedly and have never needed it anyway. I will not use in the UK. I have used it on the continent, but didn't need it and have never, and will never use it again.
I've had one car driven in to and the driver sod off before I could get down their number cos they had a re-spaced plate I got what I did see wrong, the Police believed they even knew who it was and suspected they would have been drunk as well, but couldn't do anything because I couldnt give them the full plate cos I couldn't read it. That cost a fortune in additional unsurance costs etc etc
It seems to me that you want the Police to nick everyone else for breaking the law, but when you do you get the arse.
You are breaking the law, you're doing it in a very noticeable car and you got pinged. You don't like, so change the plate and get on with the rest of your life . . ..

Take comfort from the fact they are focusing on making sure their shiny new ANPR kit stands the best chance of working. When they have achieved this, they become pretty well redundant
Which is a great invention, because for all the w
rs out there that don't insure, tax or mot their cars theres more of a chance of them getting nicked. It's the likes of us lot that pay a small fortune for tax and insurance because of the thousands of tossers that don't.
