Navman in a Griff

I'm thinking about buying the Navman 3450 GPS system (with iPAQ) for in car navigation. Does anybody have experience of using this system? Or recommend another?

I have a navman 3000 with my ipaq 3870, it's resonably good but the suppied software is pants. Upgrade to Tomtom software and its not a bad satnav.

I agree if you goto to www.globalpositioning.co.uk or www.spotlightguides.co.uk they offer some good deals on tom tom and navman jackets. I brought a jacket from them - really good! also a Hiacom GPS mouse for the laptop again works well - they know what they are talking about as well when you ring them. Ordered the jacket at 2pm it was with me at 8:30 next morning

Try www.totalpda.co.uk, I recently bought a TomTom Navigator system which came with GPS reciever, UK maps and latest TomTom software for £199+VAT

It works brilliantly!

I Use Navman, woth 3400 software. I think 3450 has the Europe maps which werent out when i got mine. Previously had 3000 which is pants!

3400 is good software, isnt upgraded for congestion zone yet, but works well for a to b via z.

SmartNav software is a pile of poo, but the jacket good. I've moved on to TomTom software - leagues ahead!

I'm using TomTom with an IPAQ in our Chim. Very pleased with it.

Old thread, I know but people were asking me about this at a TVRCC meeting (Langer Hall, East Midlands).

Last summer I bought the Navman 3450 system which is a jacket for ipaqs (missus and I have a 3850 and 3970). For a trip abroad we carried comprehensive maps for France and Italy with us and found it to be excellent. Back home it is very easy to swap between vehicles and we both use it all the time. PDA funtionality as well.

The only problem I have had was in Nottingham city centre when reception was variable in narrow streets between tall buildings. I'm not sure whether an external antenna would improve this (the is a socket for this).

For the Griff installation I use the (included) windscreen mount under the rear view mirror. The only extra required is a power cable extension to reach under the drivers seat. I use a four into one unit so I can charge a phone if necessary.

For what its worth I run a Garmin 3600 which has been very accurate and reliable in a range of vehicles ideal if you are starting from scratch as it is basically a Compaq 3600 PDA with MP3 player/recorder and built in GPS system with antenna might be worth alook at www.garmin.com/mobile/products.html#pda
