Any advice on toolchests ? I want a chest on castors with deep drawers and a topbox with 5-7 drawers. Looked at everything from Halfords at about £250 to Snap-On at over £1000 for just the topbox and am currently losing the will to live trying to find something in the middle price backet. I'm looking to spend about £400 to £700...recommendations please....

Mac Tools or Brit Tool IIRC are in that bracket.

Costco do a huge one with lots of drawers etc. (can't recall it's exact layout) Think it's around £400 mark which seemed a bargain for what you got.

a vote for the Costco one - I have one and it's stunning value for money compared to the others available of the same quality. It's big but excellent.

definately mac or britool, facom or snapon if you can strech to it..
with the no name brands you have no recourse if the wheels fall off and the draws fall out (as they do sometimes)the better brands will at leasy give you some sort of gaurantee.

I bought Halfords Professional top chest and roll cab (removed the Halfords logo and added a few snap-on stickers paperbag). Fine for my usage at home with ball bearing runners, but metal is fairly thin so wouldnt last too long if abused I think.

I chose to spend money on the Facom tools inside, but I still hanker a proper Snap-on cab.

I've got a huge one which I bought from a garage that was closing down. But the Machine Mart ones seem good.

I've got a base like this:
and then a drawer unit on top

That lots around £250

Topic closed for me....bought the Costco one from Reading - was a bit of a palava as it took 3 of us to get it all in an A-class Merc (rental) then to find the top box was damaged so had to go back in to get another. Then drove all the way back to Lincolnshire with it hanging out the back !
nice bit of kit though for the money.....thanks everyone for the suggestions...

glad you took my (!) advice smile I had the same problem getting it home - 2 of Costco's porters and me struggling to get it in the back of a Saab 9-5 estate! Fortunately, the car had a sliding boot floor that meant at least it was supported when hanging out of the back.

Downside is that you now have to go and spend a fortune on extra tools to fill up all the drawers smile

Halfords have got a good deal on their Industrial Chests at the mo. Buy a roll cab at £300 and get a free matching top box worth £220. On their website...
