Well, last night some cretin thought it would be a hoot to come over to my gaff and remove the cover from the car. Remove it by tearing it from the car body leaving the cover in need of something beyond your average seamstresses abilty and damage to paintwork.

I've left a large notice by the entrance to my place which reads:

F.A.O LAST NIGHTS FECKLESS MORON:

Well Done, You Were Successful In Causing Damage To An Expensive Car Cover And Paintwork. Make Known Who You Are, For I'm Sure Your Family, Friends And The Community As A Whole Would Celebrate And Rejoice In Your Guile, Courage And Wit.

Let Us Hope You Have Found Someone To Read This To You.

Now, I've done some dumb things in the past, things I regret, but I've never wantonly caused damage to someones stuff.

Forgive my ranting ranting; something considerably less than I'd do if I caught 'em in the act. I know it goes on and that many of you have been the subject of mindless goin's on too. But right now, I just wanna bang heads! mad

sorry to hear what happened, but is putting the sign up not likely to cause more vandalism from the t@ats involved ?

yes I appreciate your anger as well but I'd agree and suggest that the note (assuming the said cretin can read) would come over as a challemge rather than a deterrant.

Yea, possibly, I'd not discounted the thought; who knows how a Morons mind works. Just feeling vengeful right now and wanting to kick butt!

Bruce,
Sorry to hear this, there are some absolute ar5es in the world and unfortunately there seem to be a few more every day. Peoplke have no respect for anyone and the youth are even worse. It pains me to think what it will be like in 10 years time. The sooner I can afford to naff off overseas I will.
Hope they didn't damage anything other than the cover.
I agree that it could be red rag to a bull and you'll only entice them into doing something worse!

Leave the sign up, keep a look out for them coming back and make sure there is a cricket bat next to the door, then let the feckin alf wits know not to mess.

smile

My works van used to be parked outside our old works on a main road. There always used to be kids nearby drinking of a night, and twice in a week, some bugger nicked my wipers smile

I left a message under the new wipers, along the lines of "make sure I'm never driving past & see you"

Hopefully it put an element of doubt/reality in to their mind, as it never happened again smile

On a positive note, putting your sign up, could act as an "accident here, did you spot anything" type thing. You might get someone come forward who saw something.

Probably kids, more likely a drunk, and even more likely, drunk kids smile

That or a gust of wind

Terrible news mate. I think the sign is a good idea but and this is a big but maybe try some reverse psycology (spelling) I would put the note as something along the lines of I can fix it so hard luck with the intention of said fker thinking I will do it again then. at that point you will of been waiting around with a bat or some other tool.

Prob not a good idea. but I really wish these mindless fkers would drop dead.

I know exactly how you feel mate, durign the summer my cerb is kept outside with a cover on. Because its windy where I live I tie extra straps round the cover. However some oxygen thief decided to cut the straps into little 6 inch lengths. I replaced them but it happened another three times!! I then gave up with the straps so they decided to put fag burns holes in the cover instead. So indiscibably frustrating!

CCTV is the only way. It may not completely deter but may enable you to identify the scrote. I set up a covert camera years ago watching my MR2 which someone vandalised. I caught one of the neighbours walk passed and throw something onto the car. I also caught someone reversing into the car and dent the front wing. I have the attitude that it is bound to happen at some point. At least with video you have the choice of blackmail/beating/ or uselessly reporting to the police.

Cheers all; I know far worse happens in the world. It's the mindlessness of such action that's so frustrating not to mention the expense and thought of there being a 'next time'. WTF's it all about?

I may have to look into the CCTV thing though: more time and money eh?! And yea, there's a 1979 32" 'Adirondack' by the front door.

It's disappointing to note this kind of mindless destruction happens even in your part of the world. It's become derigueur in cities but I had assumed it was safe in more rural areas. It's just piss-poor. Witless, knuckle-dragging fkwits!

Have big stick - will travel.

If there is owt I can do Bruce to help just let us know.
As for peace of mind we put a security light out side with CCTV via the PC and also a nice tool at the bottom of the stairs.

Sorry to hear about this, it certainly makes you mad. As others have said, I'd lose the note, assuming they are capable of some thought process it just may make them rise to the challange.

If you use a computer with a cctv camera connected , use a basic IR one, we scored fantastic the other day with a night breakin. all 4 perpetrators about 1' from the camera pointing and laughing in the dark. 6 hrs later they were arrested for 104 breakins to pharmacies here. cost is minimal (probably <200 pounds as its about $350 dollars here} for something that should do the job.

Think they might view the note as a challenge, don't think people like these have a conscience. Could be worse next time, I would take it down and try a more subtle approach, like try and catch them in the act and decapitate them. Well you know what I mean.
