alternative to normal coolant

Interesting stuff...
Took a look at the data sheet on the above link and it says that while Water Wetter + water is better at cooling the engine than water + antifreeze, or a combination of all three..... there is little or no effect at reducing the freezing point.
So in the winter months you must use a combination water + WW + at least 20% antifreeze.

Do you mean modern red/orange coolants as opposed to old fashioned 'blue/green'? Basically the newer red/orange stuff lasts longer and is supposed to be better at reducing scale / sludge / gel / corrosion... due to its different chemistry. It is significantly more expensive.
I am happy with mine, pipes seem to stay cleaner internally. I just ensure I siphon off & refill the coolant if I do any work around the coolant system. I expect the red a/f & waterwetter fill to last @10years so given the higher initial cost it will still be cheaper in the long run, and in my judgement the internals seem to be in better order

Sorry guys water wetter is not what I mean. The stuff im thinking of has no water in it at all and you can in theory leave it in there for the life of the vehicle. it has a lower freezing temperature and higher boiling temperature and because it contains no water there is no risk of corrosion.
I will keep searching!

I use Halfrods advanced stuff, which is the same colour as water wetter, maybe just the colour, but I agree with what Spend has said.
I change mine every time I do anything with the coolant system and I have never had any issue with overheating and it' not a modded coolant system, just ket in good order.
I've flushed the rad a couple of times in the last 2 years and there's never any sludge or ropey looking fluids.
I don't change the mix throughout the year, and generally it runs about 20-25% coolant. Used to use water wetter with the old type coolants and the advanced stuff appears to do equally as good a job.
As for using a fluid other than water, you may want to make sure it is compatible with water, as an emergency top up could become an issue if you haven't any of the 'magic' fluid to hand . . . .

what they don't talk about is the that fact it's a LOT more viscous that water when cold , think custard

Dont suppose that matters though does it? engine will get to running temperature quicker? so it might even be a good thing? Hell what do I know!!! Im just guessing http://www.evanscooling.com/html/home1.htm

I have enquired into the cost of it, and as the coolant capacity of a cerb is 12 litres it would need about 120 quids worth of the stuff, which to my mind is probably a bit more than its worth. If I was tracking the car every week then maybe, but with the use the car gets its not worth it. Shame as it looks good stuff.
