we are now running a tuscan challenge car rover 5oo engine but fitted with a lt77 gearbox
we had to change the gear linkage to the shorter version from the sherpa van
to get the gear lever in the right position
but the change is so poor that you can not make good progress as sometimes you just cant find gears
box is filled with fresh castrol smx and is almost impossible to change gear from cold, does get better when warm but still not good
any way can you just swap over to a t5 + new prop

The T5 box in the Tuscan racers has a straight cut 5th gear. I have a couple of spares but both need re-building. I also have 2 different length props for the T5 for the Tuscan if any help to you.

The LT77 should have a really light easy change.

It could be someone has fitted poly bushes.. I recently drove GSX600's 400SE and that had poly bushes in the box and the gears were really difficult to find and engauge..

well now i have come to try the box again and it will not select any gear at all
just give it a quick bleed but still no joy
car was out yesterday but the change was getting worse
goes into gear without engine running but will not select with engine running
feels like a fluid problem but how do i check it out

Sounds a bit like a release arm / bearing problem too..

It's possible for the release arm fulcrum point to punch thru the release arm.. you can see this if you remove the slave cylinder.

Also the release bearing carrier is either solid steel (early - no problems) or plastic the latter .. with the platic ones giving problems with the steel square location tabs on the release arm - one of the tabs can dig into the plastic and twist .. this means the bearing does not get pushed into the clutch properly..

Hope it the fluid smile
