having thrown the alt/water pump belt on my Griff the other week .... 4.3 pre cat...

I was wandering if anyone had fitted a belt tensioner simalar to that on the serp engines.

If so what was involved ie fixing brakets ets, different belt? and where from?

Use the blets with the 'teeth' for a start ,they're more flexible.

Also the only reasons for belts to be thrown off a vee belt is either insufficent tension or the pulleys are misaligned.

You can check the latter with one of those DIY lasers now cheaply available

Single V belts don't usually have tensioners, presumably because there's so much scope for movement between the belt and the pulley and because the transmitted loads tend to be fairly low. You shouldn't need a tensioner; if the belt won't stay on, you have some other problem and it's better to correct that.

Cheers.... thats what I wanted to know.....

I don't think there will be an issue with the belts staying on, as when it went I found that the alternator bolt had worked loose...

I was just wondering about a tensioner as people (no Tiv owners) seemed surprised that there was not one.
