Why has the "Mania 2003 at Bruntinthorpe" thread been closed ?

This is unwarranted censorship........

Its been moved here to seperate the ideas from the noise.

Not censorship at all thats something thats not apparent on PH with the exception of stuff outside the posting rules...

No - I'm sorry - but that's NOT how it is.

The original thread was to discuss the 2003 event. The new thread is to discuss how future events could be better (which by definition is an acknowledgment that the event was a farce). Those are two different things.

So - where are people now supposed to put comments about the 2003 event ?

This IS censorship. People are trying to sweep the weekends embarrasing shambles under the carpet. Those of us who really feel that we've been ripped off (including Joospeed, nubbin, Paul V, rude girl, leszekg, Herbie hammer, Alf Essex, Sportie, johno and pbrettle) want to know what's going to be done about re-imbursement of the ticket costs.

Do I need to start (yet another) thread entitled "Being ripped off by the TVRCC" or is someone (club related) going to get their finger out ???

I just need to correct on this, yes I was not overly happy with the event but thats now passed and we should look forward to greater things from new committee members. For the record, I for one, am not looking for any re-imbursement of the ticket costs just better value for money going forward.

Cheers.

Alan.

Apologies Alf (and maybe others) for lumping everyone who expressed disappointment into the "how about some recompense" pot.

I'd not taken into account that particularly British thing about "keeping a stiff upper lip, and not wanting redress, despite having been taken for a clown"

Dave, yes two different things, like Pistonheads and the TVRCC are two different things, can’t you see that ranting on here will get you the square root of diddly squat! Just pick up the phone and call the TVRCC office, oh and let us all know how you get on. Rich…

Tempers are running high today, aren't they?

For the sake of the argument, this is my position. I don't really think I was 'taken for a clown' at Mania - I don't think it was that calculated. I think (from nothing more than gossip) that it was organised late and suffered hugely from that. I was very unhappy at the facilities and have a long list of things that I think were sub-standard - I'll come to this shortly.

I do however think that prolonged bitching on here is destructive; that Mania happened at all is a testament to people (ordinary members) who made a lot of effort at short notice, and if all we do is kick out, even they won't bother in future.

Personally, my intention is to wait until after the new committee is voted in and then offer to sit on a sub-committee to organise the next Mania (or whatever else they might need my skills for), where my 'feedback' from this year's event can be more constructively used.

There is no point in punishing the new committee or the very few people who tried to get this year's Mania off the ground - this year is over and done with; next year is more important. If it's poor next year, then that will be a different debate.

I'm not really interested in a refund, both I and my partner work too many hours to spend our spare time chasing maybe a fiver each. The only other reason to pursue a refund would be to demonstrate our dissatisfaction with the way the event was run, and what's the point in that? They already know the membership are disillusioned, there is already a new committee waiting to stand.

A bit more than 2p worth there

Hi Dave,

Please may I ask that you do NOT have a rant at Carol at the Club office.

If you are unhappy, have a word with with the Events committee member, number in Sprint, and discuss it with him.

Bruntingthorpe was....unfortunate..... and we can learn a lot from it.

We are trying to move on.....

If you wish to take it up....please do so, but let us move on........

No offence Dave.......

Oh yes indeed - absolutly! I didn't mean for him to call and start ranting at Carol but was pointing out that asking Pistonheads to resolve his "refund" issue isn't going to achieve anything Rich...

Hello, everyone - I was one of the ones disappointed by mania, but I am also the guilty party who closed the thread. I thought it had run it's course, and also it might re-direct people to a more positive thread. I am quite happy to re-open it.

But let me make it clear - It is not "censorship" - I am not active in the TVRCC, and I was as disappointed as everyone else last weekend.

If you look at the thread, you will see that I also posetd to say that everyone has a right to say what they think.

It is now open for business again.

The new thread can be found here

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=65&h=0&t=52711

the old thread was becoming a tiresome rant that was achieving nothing, if people could make suggestions of how things can possibly be improved as well as venting there feelings it might help leaving the thread open. But i doubt that will happen

Nubbin you no what i feel

I didn't pay, so I don't want any reimbursement.

I was not therefore ripped off.

I will say however that it was a very very poor event and has put me off bothering with another Mania unless it is something like the IOM one was.

I do not want my name associated with slagging off the TVRCC as although my comments are very critical I do understand how difficult it is to organise an event which is worthy of note and in particular "universal praise"

They have a tough job to gain significant credit from these events, I just think there was not enough effort put into this one.

It was a poor representation of what the club could achieve and further disenfranchises some of its members who see no other use for the club than organising events, which if then are not felt to be great then why bother going.

So many more of us understand that they do a lot more for the brand, it's club members and enthusiast's as a whole.

They just screwed up here !

Hmmmm - they did didn't they. That's the point. They didn't deliver value for money. That's not acceptable.

I went to the Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb yesterday. Fantastic cars (both displayed and racing), terrific organisation, good seating / viewing / facilities, access to the pit area and generally superb organisation for.........well........£15 each. Now THATS £15 each well spent !
