Performance comparison - 3.6 Tamora or 5.0 Chimaera Taraka??
Discussion
Hi,
I'm seriously contemplating parting with my Chimaera 5.0, which has been Taraka'd. I love the peformance but hanker after the looks of more modern TVRs.
I'm thinking about a Tamora although I am concearned by the potential difference in performance. Is a standard 3.6 Tamora going to be a lot slower than my Chimaera 500 Taraka?

Many thanks in advance.
Lee.

slower? Its likely to be just as quick...
0-62 of Tamora is about 4.5? 5.0 is 4.2? SO with Taraka upgrade expect it to be a fair bit quicker?I've been on long hoons behind a Tamora or two and even in my SC its closer than you might imagine so I don't think a Taraka will be beating one on the street. But it really depends on the driver. If you drive both I'm sure you'd find that if anything the Tamora will be slighly faster.

But when we are talking about performance (or at least, the OP said performance), are we discussing 0-60 and 0-100 or point to point?
A Chimaera with decent suspension set up can handle quite well (I've only driven a Tamora in the damp/wet, and I found it twitchy, and risky, so didn't really open her up at all) - my new one feels like an Elise compared to my old one. And having switched from an Elise to the 5l I'm surprised at how comfortable the grip is.

For me the difference between the RV8 cars and the AJP8 / S6 cars is that with the AJP and S6 you have to have the mind set that you are going to go quickly. With an RV8 car you can just press the loud pedal, any gear any speed and it feels quick. The AJP8, ('96 4.2) felt no quicker on the road than my old 4.0 Chim, the T350 again feel slower when driving sedately. However The T350 was 4 seconds quicker at Castle Combe than the Cerb, (T350 was limited to 6k RPM at the time) and the Cerb was 4 seconds quicker than I managed in the Chim.
If you have a mind to give a Tam it's head I think it would take a brave or better driver in a Chim or Griff to stay with you.

I don't know about outright speed but my experience of, admitedly older, chims against my 51 plate Tam is that they dont even come close on the handling front. I love the SP6 to bits, sometimes literally, but the RV8 has truly amazing gobs of torque.
(Gobs being the technical term for lots of lb/ft.)

I do distinctly remember catching up over a couple of laps and passing on the start finish straight, the higher revs of the 6 allowed me to gain on him with every gearchange
