An unusual infestation...

Hi Guys'n'Gals
Looking for some ideas on ridding the Cerb of some cheeky ants that seem to have taken up residence in the poor thing!
Firstly, I am struggling to think where they may have set up house. It's not inside the vehicle (unless they've buried themselves in the seat padding), and I can't imagine that they run around in heat protective suits, so it sure isn't the engine bay. They appear, running along the transmission tunnel in the cabin, so my first thought is behind the fuel tank...
Secondly, aside from splurting ant powder over the whole car, does anyone know of a "bomb" that I can fumigate the car with, or any other methods of ridding myself of the little swines?
I wouldn't mind generally, except they're lousy drivers and they never contribute to the petrol...

First up I'd take the helmet holder out and have a good poke around back there.
Secondly, are you sure they're not in residence in your garage rather than the car itself?
How many are we talking about - the odd one or two, or properly loads?
I'd be a bit wary about using chemical stuff in the cabin - not only may is damage the leather, butwho knows what unpleasant fumes it might create once warm. If you can narrow down where they're coming from, the power is designed that they carry it back to the nest anyway, so you don't have to cover the whole car with it.
Finally, a warm coke tin with a little bit left in is irresistable to them. It won't deal with a nest if there's one in there, but you can harvest quite a few that way.
Failing all that, borrow an aardvark for a couple of days;)

Good call on the helmet holder - that's probably the best way to get behind the fuel tank without major work for a good look around.
I know what you mean about the chemicals. I suspect that anything strong enough to pursuade ants to de-bunk is probably strong enough to melt TVR fibreglass!
I've given the garage a good going over already and it's clear - the Tiv is actually out at the moment anyway. Of course, it is prime ant season, so maybe with a little effort, they'll find a better place. I shall try the "ant temptation" suggestion first, I think. Thanks!

Dethlac....a clear lacquer that kills crawling things....every where that you cannot touch it might mean lifting a few trim bits.

Edited to s what is says in the advert... Dethlac kills ants, cockroaches, woodlice and other crawling insects. Dethlac is a unique lacquer. Once sprayed, Dethlac dries to a hard clear film, which remains fully effective for months, even when it rains or if the surface is washed with detergents.
Dethlac can be used indoors and outdoors and may be applied on any firm non-absorbent surface ie doors, window frames (not upvc), skirting boards, shelves,
concrete & patios etc.

Maybe in what remains of a Pheasant nesting behind your front grille
Put a small bowl of sugar OUTSIDE the car, and then observe whether the little perishers are returning with their loot towards or away from the car.
That will tell you where the source of the problem lies.
Carefully pick out the Queen and tie her to a small pole.
The workers will rally to her defence, whereupon you may blast them all with both barrels of a Holland & Holland.
In the interests of health and safety...do please wear protective clothing, ear defenders and glasses.

In my experience, it's never a good idea to cast yourself in the role of tyranical b-movie baddie. Such behaviour inevitably ends with some cruel twist of fate whilst you're laughing maniacally, hoisting you by your own petard, while some lowly worker ant heroically saves the day.The workers will rally to her defence, whereupon you may blast them all with both barrels of a Holland & Holland.

Deathlac is brilliant, if your car is garaged you can spray the floor around it. Once they have walked over it, they're finished.
Maybe if you find where they are you could spray an item (e.g. small thin piece of wood) and leave it in the car. If they walk over it they die (could bait it with sugary thing?).

Yup....tis true...Deathlac is supper stuff for getting rid of bugs.I would strongly advise though wearing a mask if you intend to spray your garage floor....or taking an incredibly deep breath and not breathing until you get yourself out!!

I have small shallow flower beds each side of my back door and the ants love them.
First year we moved in (27 years ago) I came down to find literally hundreds, maybe even thousands of ants all over my kitchen..
......work surfaces, oven, fridge, biscuit jar, fruit, plates, cups......urrggghhh makes my flesh crawl just to think of it.......After I finished freaking (took a while!), cleared and disinfected absolutely everything and boiled the little buggers alive at the entrance point.(I know...
....but I was desperate at the time).. we applied Deathlac on the steps outside the backdoor.I do that at this time every year...never had a problem since.........
Still the rumour has probably spread in Ant world that a crazy lady with devastatingly lethal 'daily express' batterers lives in that room and screams in a manic fashion as she destroys ant bretheren.
