tvr to aston db7
Discussion
Hi
I own a Tuscan and my Dad has a DB7. As said before they are totally different cars. The Tuscan is a beast and I love it. My dad likes it but enjoys the AM as it is a GT car.
It really depends what you want. A fast GT car or a half race car. I personally prefer the Tuscan for that hard edge. The DB7 is too civilised. My Dad loves the civilised side (but also has a 380BHP AC cobra for the fun).
Just weigh it up GT or lots of noise and theatre.

I went from this:to this:

As has been mentioned previously, two quite different characters but both equally enjoyable: the loud, raw, lightweight but fragile Cerbera and the refined GT cruiser of the Aston. Both had absolute peaches of engines and drop dead gorgeous looks. Although I never had cause to try, I suspect the amount of room in the rear was similar in both of them as well.
My old man went to a DB7 after several Griffs. He loves it ( after about 5 years of ownership, he still loves it ).
As said, different character, which is why he changed ( he's got old.... ), err, he wanted something less frantic and more GT / grown up.
The back seats are small. I have never tried to get in one myself, but Little Duncs car seat will ( just ) fit in, so he has been in the back.
Reliability is better, servicing costs have gone up, fuel & ins about the same.
It IS a lovely car, but to be honest, I don't fancy it myself. I would be too scared of potential bills, and I love my V8.

I had the priviledge a couple of years ago of doing a back to back of a DB7 with a lot of suspension mods and my Cerbera 4.5 at the Spanish circuit at Guadix. The DB7 was obviously a great Grand Tourer, compared to the Cerb it was comfortable, cossetting and obviously very well built. I had a passenger and after a few laps in the Aston we hopped into my Cerb
The passenger's reaction was "Chalk and cheese" ;as a track car the Cerbera was light years faster than the DB7 - but for road work and touring the Aston would be every bit as good as the TVR

I think the DB9 is a more worthy contender for the affections of your typical TVR owner, IMO (eg desirability, performance, purity of design - or whatever it's called).
I still want a DB9 but, since making some choice upgrades to the cerb, I can't see many advantages of the £50K upgrade.
except for maybe the keyring, kudos and..klutch.

anyone changed from tvr to a db7
I've thought about it. Currently I have a TVR and a Jaguar, and whilst the DB7 is lovely and I could just about afford one if I sold the other two, I realised that it would do neither task as well. It wouldn't have the grunt and rawness of the TVR, and I wouldn't feel comfortable using it as an everyday car - for example leaving it in supermarket car parks, and it could intimidate customers. So currently I have both ends of the spectrum covered; the DB7 would fall in the middle. Pity because I think the DB7 Volante is absolutely gorgeous-looking.jeremyc said:
