Hi all,

I have just had a quotation from warranty works for a 01 Tuscan im looking to purchase. £1400 for 3 yrs cover, unlimited number of claims, each claim upto a max of £2500. It covers all electrical and all mechanical faults and i get to pick where all work it done. Sounds great!

What do we think? Has anyone used them?

Would they make a contribution to a £2,500+ bill?

I don't know anything about this company, however, most warranty cover is for manufacturing/mechanical component failure, they do not cover wear and tear. I would read the agreement carefully and do not assume that paying £1,400 gives you low cost motoring, warranty is often rejected on new cars.

to give an example, if a cam shaft snapped, it has failed, if it becomes noisy, it has worn

Look at it this way. If an engine blows for whatever reason the most you will get from the warranty is £2500 or, to put it with precision, £1100. If you have to pay out for a Speed 6 rebuild then you are often looking in the region of £7 - 8000.

These warranties make the insurance companies money, or else they would not be selling them. This does not make them bad people of course. Indeed, they are offering a valuable service, at a price. The difficult thing to work out is whether the product they are selling is worth the price to you.

What I would consider is my style of driving: do I warm the engine thoroughly or do I, on occasion, rev it when it is cold? Was the previous owner fastidious or was he a bit of a lad? Is there a full service history? What is the mileage? And you can probably work out a whole lot more.

It's a difficult balancing act.

As posted above different warranties cover different things. The two main costs for S6 cars seem to be engine rebuilds and clutches. One or both may not be covered under some warranties.

I think it also depends on how many miles you intend to do. If I was doing 12K miles a year I'd get a good warranty. As I'm doing 3K per year I don't have one, but I keep a bit of money in the bank. I made sure I bought a well cared for car and over the last two years if I'd had a warranty would have been able to claim back the princely sum of just £40!

I have a 2001 Tuscan as well.

Best way. Then if you don't have a problem, you're not lining the pockets of an insurance company.

The problem is you have no idea how the car has been used before you get it! You just dont know if they made sure it was warm before they gave it the beans. This cover would cover me aganist ( the big bang ) and also clutch, the main two probs on a tuscan, upto £2500.
The car i go for will have had a re-build, done by TVR Power, so i know it would have been done right. But how has it been used since? I wouldnt know. I would be looking to do about 12k a year.
