Cars are selling for 10,000 off from new after two years, ie. you lose 5,000 per year.

This costs 4,600.

Not too shabby, if one didn't intend to drive the TVR more than once every 12 days/fortnight anyway.

And it doesn't seem as if there's any mileage restrictions...!

It looks like insurance and fuel are provided. No servicing hassles. And no selling hassles at the end, either. Very nice. Anyone see a downside to this?

all sounds very sensible if you dont use your car very often.

But in reality who in their right mind would pay to drive aound in those cars plastered in "i rented my TVR..." stickers???

I agree, get rid of the stickers and it'd be great. There seem to be lots of inferences in the text of the site to the effect that insurance is included, but nothing concrete.

Plus, I'm guessing that if insurance is included, a 23 year old (i.e. me ) isn't going to be "invited" to join.

Seems to me there could be lots of expense associated with joining the club.....Almost as much as owning and running a TVR.....
Quote from the site:
Monthly Membership Fee:
"There are two Monthly Membership Fees applicable, dependant on the type of membership:

Weekend Membership: £300 per month
Weekday Membership: £250 per month

The Monthly Membership Fee is payable upon commencement of your Driving Sessions on an agreed date every calendar month. The minimum membership period is twelve months.
Annual Deposit (refundable) & Insurance Excess
As a Tangent Performance member, you will have privileged access to a fleet of cars each of which commands a minimum OTR price of £40,000. In return, we ask for an Annual Deposit of £2,000. The Annual Deposit provides Tangent Performance with a degree of financial commitment, on your part as a member, and when enjoying the Tangent Performance fleet and encourages responsible driving.

To provide you with a degree of financial stability during your term of membership, any unforeseen costs arising from minor incidents during your Driving Session will be deducted from your Annual Deposit. In the event of an incident involving an insurance claim (where beyond reasonable doubt, accountability lies with the member), an additional Insurance Excess of £3,000 is also payable.

Is it me or there hidden costs????

So £4600 anualy and a £2000 deposit + £3k insurance excess?

For 30 days with a TVR.

Thats £153 a day so long as you dont hit anything - take all your days and theres no reliability problems etc.

They get 30* £4600 = £138k pa.

Not sure how the sums work out for them, especialy as insurance has to be a killer?

I knew someone would work out the daily running costs, and I thought I had nothing to do at work.....

Hmmm great idea at first, then i saw that you need to cough up £2K deposit (which i don't have) then another £1K for membership (thats now £3K. Then its £300Pcm to drive a car (for the weekend) with big rented stickers on all over it once every 5 weeks IIRC.
Oh and if there is an accident you are liable to pay up to another £3K. Erm...so basic costs are a total of £6600!(£9600 if you total it) I could use that on a deposit for my own Tuscan and then pay off something like £450 a month then the car is mine. Anyhow i don't think that they will let a 22 drive in there cars. the idea is there, but there is a cog missing somewhere.

Don't forget that you'll have to book the car well in advance. What happens then if:-

It pisses down all weekend.
You get called into work last minute.
The weekend away you were planning is changed for the following weekend.
Some other club member damages the car just before your booking.
etc.

The're no substitute for having the keys in drawer ready for that spur of the moment drive.

Seems to me like the only winners are the people who run the club!

I should point out that the cars will be provided without any advertising on them - the stickers are in place for the promotional period only.

Also, as far as the excess goes - this is pretty standard for hiring a car of any kind and is only payable if you damage the car.

Remember that these are brand new examples, in the case of the Tuscan and T350 worth in excess of £40000!

Thanks for all your feedback fellow PHer's, as any thoughts all help to mould how Tangent runs. I've always said that we will only ever be as successful as our membership.

A couple of points of clarification:

All cars will have the signwriting removed when delivered to members.

We are not trying to "thread on the toes" of TVR owners, but there are a good number of people who would love to drive cars like ours (yours too!) but really just cannot justify it...

The Annual Deposit (£2,000) is asked for to create some accountability for the member's actions, and hopefully move away from the "rental car" mentality, and was a sanction imposed by our insurers (and you're right, the insurance is horrendous!)

The good news for us is that the insurers are now reconsidering this condition and I would love to be able to remove this condition very soon and return all Deposit's paid.

So: taking out this cost, total cost for full membership (bear in mind that we also provide custom membership) would be £4,600 in first year. That's:

£153 a day for weekend
£133 a day for weekday

The TVR Centre currently rent their cars for £250 plus VAT...

Even for a daily rental, we're cheaper because it's not our core income generator.

TBC...

(Sorry, couldn't get it all on one page... )

I'm sorry the feedback seems to be negative, but we feel that this really is a good way for those that currently do not have a TVR of their own to at least have some driving fun, until the kids grow up, can afford their own, want to buy their own, decided which model they want etc etc...

Gi Jnr,

What are your views of someone at the age of 22 driving around in your cars?
I was interested in hiring the Tuscan for a weekend, but then i saw all the membersip charges and this put me off a bit, a bit steep at the moment.

OK, three questions:
1. The 2000 GBP is refundable if you don't prang the car, right? I understand that this condition may be removed, but while it is in place, is the sum refunded at the end of the year if you don't do any damage?

2. Is there a minimum age for membership?

3. How far in advance do you have to make your reservation and how much is the penalty (if any) for changing it, if your plans change?

GI Jnr,
it's unfair to compare daily rental rates when you have a yearly commitment. For someone who wants to get a good feel for the car, the weekend rental will be 500 GBP or so. That's it. Much, much cheaper than your 4600 GBP product.

What you provide is useful for someone who wants the fun of TVR ownership without the hassles of negotiating the purchase, maintenance, resale, storage, insurance, etc., etc. Someone who won't use it much, but on occasion to use it extensively. ie. some long distance touring weekends, etc.

Which reminds me, you can take it out of the country, yes?

And there's no mileage restrictions, right?

Granted, unfair comparison. Cost per day, we're still cheaper though.

Sorry, insurers!

Normally, 250 a day, but I can be *flexible*

1:Correct
2:The Criteria is this: >30 of age, min 2 years driving experience, NO serious driving offences (DD, wreckless etc).
For anyone between 25 & 30: as above but with some Performance Driving experience, and are to be assessed individually by insurers.
3:Your Driving Sessions are provisionally booked @ the time of joining, but can be rearranged/shifted anyhow provided another member is not disadvantaged. I personally would rather a member have ten sessions over the summer rather than go out in it during the December.

Until we fill our membership (which, I will not let happen as i'll then buy in another fleet car ), this won't be a problem and will not be for some time yet.

So @ the moment, it's a case of join early and you can use your Driving Sessions as and when you fancy which a couple of people are loving as they have had several weekends of TVRing over this great summer.

Hope this makes sense.

Or alternatively join the Classic Car Club for half the price, and drive TVRs, 911s, Ferraris, E-types, Maser 3200s etc etc whenever you like (assuming you get in first on the bookings!). Unlimited mileage, and two people can drive for one joining fee....I have had 59 days driving this year for £1800 plus petrol. Sound good?? Over 25s only I think though.
