Which After market ecu???
Discussion
Hi All
as the title suggests how do the after market ecu's compare, i'm looking at replacing the standard one and would like some advice on Which is:
.The most user friendly
.cost effective
.best allrounder
or do i stick with the lucas and chip it??
Thanks
Rich

Depends what you want to achieve. Another option might be to keep the 14cux for fuel, with or without an aftermarket chip as necessary, but go for mapped ign/coilpacks rather than the dizzy based setup. Unless you go for pretty major changes on the motor, the sprk side of things has always seemed to me to have great potential for gains and the 14cux is actually a pretty smart bit of kit given its relatively humble processing power by current standards.
Search 'Emerald', KMS or MS/Megasquirt on here and you'll find tons of material that might narrow the choice a bit. Might put you off altogether mind, too

thanks pupp
well the plan is to replace the exhaust with the new one from clive f or the sc route or both? but there are good gains to be had by with a new ecu and less expensive in the long run if mods are add at a later date,
i just thought it may be the best place to start as i already have an mc1 cam stage 3 heads big induction kit and inlet

I used to run an Omex, which was a lovely ecu to use,and with a good level of sophistication should you want to move on later. If i were buying again though,it would be an emerald,as it's a bit less outlay, still easy to use,and theres more of them out there, which will always be a help when you want to compare or discuss issues and ideas.
In reply to your last question,YES,bin that restrictive Lucas system-you'll not look back!

I run Emerald for a number of reasons . .
1 - It has a lot of features allowing you to play with it relatively easily.
2 - It is more advanced than you need for the RV8 but therefore alows easier future development should it be required.
3 - Readily available data on the net
4 - Emerald's workshop and RR are only 25miles up the road from me
I am very very happy with it and Emerald's service and support. I need to re-map a couple of items on mine since it has settled down abit and will be doing so at the weekend, it's as easy as that.
It also has a data loggin ability which helps a lot.

Yep another vote for Emerald, good backup and advice, If you want you they can put you intouch with Paul Dove to install and build the loom so its nearly a drive in and out option if thats what you want. Thats the route I took.
