Had a fantastic time yesterday...........
Met up with Phil in MK, then left to go to an airfield in Oakington (near Cambridge).
Well the airfield was nice and wide, grass on both side so no damage was gonna be had!!!
Started off with putting the car in full lock and gradually building up speed to see how and when it started to slide away from me, it took a bit then it was just jumping about. Then done it in reverse... which was nice.... when i had stopped a big cloud was coming from the pipes, too much fuel was drawn in so a good couple of blasts up and down the strip cleared that.
Phil set some cones out in a slalom , so it was thru the cones hard round at the end tyres squealing and thru again but faster and faster till i was going too fast for the end cone and losing control and spin the car...FANTASTIC
Done the slalom again but missing a couple out, which Phil knew would make be go faster still for the last cone and BIG spin.... the grin on my face was out of this world.
I done the cones in reverse as well a few times and instead of turning round to go again i was J turning the beast into position, then letting rip again.
Done a few S bends and wiped out one cone (or car) but pleased with my performance at that.
Then a great big tyres squealing DOUNUT big cloud of smoke
Then to finish the airfield it was taking a bend at 45mph, then 50 to see what the car is like, at 50 thru the bend and the car was tailhappy then the arse was coming round ...Mental note...Too fast is too fast.

We left the airfield to find some nice roads to drive, came along a steam engine holding up traffic then slow cars so popped into Maccy D's for a break. I had parked taking up 2 bays (as you do) there was plenty of spaces about. Came out and on the windscreen was a copy of a receipt and written in pen was "nice bit of parking PRAT" If that is his receipt and i was dodgy I'd have his credit card details etc....Whose the PRAT now
Found some roads to practice positioning the car thru the bends, on the outer side for a right hander and on the white line for a left hander and drive thru the bend. Then it came to a close .......

Plenty of things for me to practice on the Hockcliffe to woburn Rd

So great fun had, and 2 completely shagged front tyres.

Cracking good fun Dave ... once I have the Tamora back I may well give it a go myself. The last time I thoroughly drifted a TVR out of a roundabout in MK the Chimaera needed all it's wheels replacing ... so possibly a runway may just about be the safest place for me.

I've just come back from my first half-day "intro" course. Learned loads without even realising it!

Put me down for the track/road 8hrs in spring.

Hi there Dave,

Never did thank you you showing that route back from Mania, plus a lot more fun blatting down those A1 roads rather than sitting on the M1.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun on that ride drive course. Have been thinking about booking one myself after all of the excellent feedback. Which one did you book? They all sound a little different, not sure which to plump for.

Your rears can't be too healthy either, if you were doughnuting for long on that surface.

Was this coming off the perimetre road and then doing a hard sharp turn onto the runway with the right foot firmly planted? If so, I had great fun watching Jason subsequently "fish-tail" down the runway or alternatively completely lose it and go spinning off onto the grass in clouds of dust.... quite amusing watching him saw away on the steering wheel. When I tried the same thing I simply got a hint of understeer and then straight on down the runway (quite boring actually)... and that was with turn-in speeds, which on the last run, was just over 75mph. I need to get some narrower tyres on the back next time.

I eventually took to the grass in order to have a bit of fun!... as did Jason to the extent that at one point the dust clouds looked more like the hurricane scene out of the Wizard of Oz ( well, that's what Tim, the RD chap said anyway).

Overall the day was great fun, I got the most out of the road driving techniques... would def. recommend to others.

That was fun down the A1 wasn't it Andy.....
I went on the 8hr with road/track, you get to know the limits of the car and yourself
If you dont spin it, your not pushing hard enough!!!
You'll love it Andy, go for it

Yep Tony that was coming off the perimetre road, i was cutting it into corner then .... spin
The rears had a load of tread when i'd started but not a lot afterwards, they will need changing in a few weeks/months depending on driving but the fronts were fed, they had a little on them at the start. I had 2 fronts on order which got fitted today, so i'd known they go.
My signature is in the middle by the big white circle.... I thank you
