I've noticed for some time that the TVR General Gassing and other TVR related threads are a little lacking in activity.

Compared to 2 years ago the number of posts and variety of the posting has rapidly declined or so it seems to me. PH please correct if wrong.

But it's not even restricted to gassing, I and a few others run the occasional hoon around North Wales but even the numbers have fallen off here. It's not just this hoon, I understand the TVRCC tour of Scotland has had a very poor take up along with other TVR Tours. However, the Racing Green Tour is sold out so is it a Northern Issue?

Is it that the hooners have moved onto other makes? There is a strong argument for this when I look around my own mates move away from TVR or has the rising cost of motoring and the continually brain washing that speed is evil finally hit the TVR driver?

I've noticed this as well over the last couple of years. The wedge and cerb forums seem to still have the TVR spirit though.....

Simple answer IMHO...PH has gone down hill tis the newbieswink

Most of the TVR owners I know seldom post on here anymore or come to that never did.

They have found a niche elsewhere and moved on..Sad I know but.. hey ho

I've been a TVR owner since xmas and after coming from a busy VX220 forum I'm really surprised how quiet these forums are - especially with how much 'nursing' TVR's can have.

Can log on after a couple of days and there have been less than a page of threads in Tuscan Forum.

Girlfriends happier though....

Main reason I don't post anywhere near as much. PH has just gone really downhill in terms of members and many of the old timers have moved on. Too many are ready to flame for a slight spelling mistake and the camaraderie has all but disappeared.

There isn't much traffic elsewhere, either.

Tamora forum on TVRCC barely gets a post a week.

I think it's a natural thing that after a while the model forum topics become repetitive... 100 amp fuse, what's the best oil, how do I get in when I've locked my keys in the boot, is my handbrake for decoration only, red is the fastest colour etc...

I would agree that there is a lot more negativity these days... maybe it's the price of fuel, or maybe we're just becoming grumpy old men!!!

It's difficult for there to be a great deal of originality in the community.

Most areas of the cars in terms of mechanicals have been covered and are avaialable via the search facility.

The novelty of meeting lots of others owners not via the club has declined for many.

PH has grown larger and you either embrace the diversity or you move away looking for a smaller community again.

There's only so much talking about the same car's and the same issues/ideas/challenegs that we face with them year after year.

It is impossible for PH to ever be what it used to be as the community grows, the people in it change, even those that remain change their tastes, preferences, tolerences and need for info/data.

PH & the TVR community has meant I have made some fantastic friends and with these I do many of the things that the forums used to direct/cover/organise such as foreign trips, get togethers, mechanical resolutions, gassing.

I can't comment on the club's avtivities as I don't take part in any club events or even a member these days, this may change again though.

It's not always easy to answer the "The fog lights on the front of my Griffith don't work and where's the switch anyway ?" before you remind yourself that once upon a time you may also have been someone who needed to ask similar questions.

I'm not convinced I am tolerent of the new diversity and some of the forthright opinions (I'm not always shy in voicing my own) either, but I've been here a while and quite like it, so as one of those places you go back to I'm going to keep returning. Maybe I can help someone, maybe I can get into a genuine debate concerning something that interests me etc etc . . .

John

I think because the marque is essentially dead in the water - that eventually filters down to the older cars.

Sure - we are still enthusiasts but without newer cars coming along people start to look at newer cars..

Aston V8
Porsce GT3
Nissan .. whatever..

And don't think we don't look at the fun you guys have on your North Wales runs - people like myselfe would be there in a heartbeat - if only it was not so far away.
Had to make do with the Southdowns today .. only managed North Wales once this year and that was to pickup some engine bits and pieces (from a V8 supplier) on your door step that you all probably blast straight past and don't ever know it's there biggrin

The forums have gone downhill but I'm not sure it's the newbies.

I don't post much or even monitor the threads, I just dip in occasionally now. There's too much ill-informed gossip masquerading as well-informed truth, too much sgging off of other posters, Sprint, TVRCC, Smolenski etc and not enough good-natured banter.

I think it's a combination of things, agreed the marque is dead so there's less immediate interest in TVRs - no motor show presence, no new cars, no trips around the factory to discuss, no plans for the next Le Mans attempt and no Tuscan racing (I know there's some but not like it used to be) and no conversations with Peter Wheeler and Ben Samualson to pick over hehe, so there is bound to be less activity on the TVR threads. Also I do agree the the general atmosphere on Pistonheads seems to have an "edge" to it these days, people seem too willing to be blatantly rude and swear rather than take things in good spirit. A "smiley" or a "biglaugh" mean just that but people take things the wrong way. I see a few of the names on here that were in Pistonheads from it's inception 10 years ago (but 96 months is the maximum age you will see on the side notes) and we mostly joined from the TVRCC Yahoo Chat forum, perhaps people were a little more respectful back then? I know I spent hours answering peoples questions on TVR S Series issues and latterly Griffiths, even assisted Steve Heath with his first book but these days I tend to think I'll let people find out for themselves. As for non-TVR threads they are just an argument waiting to happen - just take a look at any F1 thread biglaugh Rich...

I would say the problem lies mainly in three areas……..

The factory going somehow seems have broken the invisible link holding all this TVR thing together. The number of TVRs out there is dropping daily and therefore so will the number of owners and future enthusiasts. There is also nothing new to talk about car wise, had the factory kept going maybe they could have brought out a Speed 7 just to make things interesting.
Recently PH has lost a lot of what made it different due to its rampant growth and any kind of community spirit is disappearing fast. Many of the regulars with worthwhile contributions don’t post as much, their space taken by a fast growing newbies. The newbies seem to be a different breed and in general seem younger certainly mentally if not physically, but I suspect both. A quick tour of P&P will soon highlight the level we are aiming at. The number of “what is the biggest ice-cream that you have ever bought” type threads says it all.
The last one is a biggy, the economics of being a car enthusiast is worse today than it has ever been. I know lots of people who despite living well no longer have the excess to fritter away on toys, TVRs very much fall into that category. They now think twice about buying a car today that will be worth nothing tomorrow, not to mention the high running costs. Then you have the nanny state scamera society which whilst happy to take huge amounts of money from the motorist seems to want to give nothing back. Not everyone wants to do trackdays, motoring on public roads has become tedious in anything faster than a shopping trolley – particularly in the UK. Yes I know there is the B???? from here to there but in general driving in the UK sucks, especially in the south.

Add all that together and you have a problem..............that isn’t going to go away.
