Keep saving Matthew. Don't get tempted into anything beginning with a P or initials starting B.

I saw a Bugatti EB110SS for sale (one of the cars assembled by Jochen Dauer's people from parts bought at Bugatti's bankruptcy auction) a while back at Manchester Bentley. I went in for a look (didn't have the stones to ask for a test drive though) and was immediately depressed as I knew more about the car than the salesman (but isn't that always the way?).

Nice looking car though. Looks kinds dumpy in the pictures I see of them but looks mean and nasty (in a good way) in person. Interior smells good too. Wished I'd had the money...

Indeed it is an excelelnt site. Good on you for saving for what you really want, but might I suggest an entry level TVR? Some of those of us with more humble S's for example would be hard pressed to part with them..

That's dedication for you!!

Which model are you after out of interest? TVRs can be purchased (and run) for very reasonable cost, unless you simply have to have the latest stuff, and older models are just as much fun - in fact you feel like you have really driven them without having to do illegal speeds!

I think I might just beat you to it Matthew.

I have a garage up the road from me which services Tivs on a regular basis. Always know when there's one about. Nothing else comes close in the rumble department - compared with the Porches, Beemers, Ferraris etc.

Only worrying thing is that one Chimeara seems to be in the garage an awful lot

Keep saving!

I have to agree with a few of the guys above, Most of the guys who have TVR's have worked their up some owning Wedges or S series then go onto Griffiths/Chims etc IMO rather than waiting go out and buy an S2 or S3 you can get them for around £6-£7,000 and believe me you will not regret it! I sold my Porsche as we were in need of a bigger car (due to newborn baby) and bought an S2 and I can honestly say they are much more fun to drive than the Porsche! And the best thing is if you want to sell it a few years time to buy a newer TVR (bet you wont want to ) you wont have lost much money at all if its looked after. They are cheap to run, easy to maintain and qualify for classic insurance, £200 in my case!

Go on why wait! I dare you to test drive one

Got me tempted now too!
I'm saving (just under to years to go) for my first - a Griff but I'm thinking about going for an S before then.

What sort of mileage do they go to?

Thanks, that was real useful.
I'm trying find out how much life the S's in the classifieds at nearly-100k can be expected to have.

Take a wander over the the S forum and do a search. I've a feeling that we have a couple of regulars with over 100K on the clock. Mine is at 64K and feels nicely run in. I think most of us would pay far attention to condition and history than mileage, (though with higher mileage the proces will obviously be a little lower)..

I would be slightly wary of a car this age with a very low mileage. My theory is that if the car has been run, problems will have been found and sorted. They don't like being sat for long periods of time and unless stored properly when laid up over winter, things can degrade..

Wow, just checked back and am amazed at the response.

I used to own a '67 VW Beetle which I restored from the ground up and I was active in the VW scene for quite some time. Great bunch of people always waving, saying hi and being genuinely interested in each others cars.

A sensible job and a house purchase put pay to my passion for owning a nice car (current ride is an 8 year old Peugeot 106 lol).

Have wanted a TVR ever since I saw my first Grif (when it won best sports car in What Car 1992ish?). Then I heard one - oh my god - the hairs stood up on the back of my neck, felt a childish grin come over my face. Id found my brand.

Over the years wanting turned to needing but the cupboard was bear of the necessary £20-30k so I started a savings plan. Matures in 4 years and should put me in something a couple of years old - I cant wait.

I am pleased to say that this site has restored my faith in motoring and its so good to see people who enjoy cars and driving. Its not anti social as 2 Jags might have us all believe in fact its the absolute oposite - this site is testiment to that.

I salute you all!

4 years is a long time to wait mate! Buy an S now, (£4k - £7k) and upgrade to the Griff in 4 years' time.
a) you will probably find no/miniscule depreciation.
b) you might not want to upgrade anyway!

V6 sounds almost as good as V8 (some say better), and is just as loud. Go along to a TVRCC meet and have a look for what you can get for little outlay - they will always make you feel welcome (W Mids meet in Meriden, E Mids meet in Lowdham). Go to tvrcc website, and click on regions for further details.

Or come along to a Staffs region meet. Details in Sprint or on the website. We have quite a number of tasty S variants that would whet your appetite!

Sorry Barry - I had a look on the TVRCC website, but didn't see a Staffs region, or I'd have stuck it on (D'Oh!)

Hmmm, not sure this is a good idea...
