Quote from wanted ads !!!!!!!

I've looked at a few cars now and this is what I'll pay - if the car is in reasonable condition and passes an Independent test, HPI e.t.c. :-

99 - 98 - up to £16K
97 - P - up to £14.5k
96 - N - up to £12.5K

Now not meaning to be funny about this but is this for real as I have never seen a 98 99 car for 16k no matter what colour / condition and I have also never seen a 96 for 12.5K.
I only ask as I have my June 98 Chimaera up for sale at the moment in the for sale section :
June 98
Atlantis Halcyon
Buiscuit full hide
Full Tvr Warranty
Fully David Batty Health Check (last Friday)
Brand new rear Discs and Pads (Today)
Refurbished alloys and New so2's
36k miles
Its imaculate (few minor chips on the nose as usually)
and its up for £17,999.
Have I completley lost the plot and am being totally unrealistic my dealers offered me 16k for the car as is for cash, and he's going to sell it for £21,995 (with a front end respray £500.00)
At the end of the day its not a cr*p colour (see ads) and she is as healthy as the day she came out of the factory (she's been checked), she's got the same warranty that the dealer's give so whats going on with the prices and advise welcome !!!!
Have seen it at adealer more or less that same car coulour, milage etc etc for £27,995 aghhhhhh !!!!!!

jna,

Even as a potential buyer on the lookout at the moment (although in no hurry), I have to commiserate but I'm sure there are owners out there who for whatever reasons, will find themselves needing the money quickly for a variety of reasons and will have to sell at prices around those quoted in the wanted advert if they want a quick sale. These are the people this advert is aimed at.

There will always be a certain number of ppotential buyers who aill expect to pay more for a better car and your does sound lovely.

I agree the prices are on the low side but the market will set the price, if there are lots of TVRs on the market and fewer buyers consequently the price goes down – simple supply and demand. I'm certainly not looking to buy a 'cheap' car. There's more than enough of them around for me to have done so already. I'll buy the most sorted, best colour combo I can within my budget – simple. It may take a month or it may take six.

You'll get your price I'm sure if you are prepared to wait – these things don't happen overnight unless you're very fortunate.

I'd rather keep the thing than have to sell it to a dealer tho'

Mikey, yes the selling to a dealer really really goes through me and I can't quite bring myself to do it YET !!
I am in no rush the only reason she is being sold is to buy a 5.0L Chimaera. when I bought the car I searched high and low like you for about 5 months and saw some very bad cars, which needed 1/2K spent on them immediatly to even make them safe let alone perfect, and they were a bit cheaper but not much !! At the end of the day I guess some people mut be happy with false economy, or alternativly don't know the cost of parts and servicing.
However thanks for the encouragement guys.

Hi JNA,
You're car does sound a fine example, which we feel about all our cars.
However, you've got to remember its January; people blew their monies over the xmas period, the roads are grotty and the sky is grey.
I would expect prices to stabilise towards Easter.
If you've been offered £16K by a dealer then you should definitely get more if sold privately, however you'll get nothing like a forecourt price.
I'd be realistic if I were you - expect £16750 to £17000 and take anything else as a bonus.
By the way - don't look in E&M this week (my heart lost a beat - I had to sit down!) there's a 99 'T' reg for only £15250 - although it sounds flogged.

If you need to "shift" your car in a short space of time it has to be cheap, what this guy is offering is probably betterv than trade, i,ve seen in the last 12 months a 96 Cerbera for £12995 a 2000 Griff for £20000 and a 97 griff for £12995 all apparently with TVR history and normal mileage

Looking at the adverts in the back of this months Sprint, IMO prices will increasingly harden over the next few months - especially if we get a few sunny days. Hang in there for the price you want...
