Does anyone have the paint code for Avus Blue pearl (96 Griffith). Is it the BMW colour 276 ?

Is the paint code (Body code) not on the chassis plate under the bonnet or in your handbook?

My BMW 328 Sports Coupe is 1998 and is Avus Blue, but it was original used by BMW as an M Series colour before being generally available as a BMW colour.

When I had my '98 Chim painted the guy told me that mine was painted in the March and that BMW called it Avus blue in the June or something like that

I have been trying to trace mine P422~2868B, nothing on the internet and doesn't appear on the PH list of TVR colour codes. Went to Halfords who said they didn't know what it was and so couldn't mix it. The Handbook says Colbolt Blue a Ford Colour, but I bought a spray can of this and whilst similar seems to miss the slight purple tinge in bright sunlight.

Have emailed a UK based car paint supplier so will see what they say.

E34 M5 3.8 was available with Avus from 92 onwards, and i think that was the first.

Even earler then - think the first Chim came out in 92? would think the first Avus blue TVR was probably much later though , 96 ?

your code is an ici paint ref. 2868b is on the list as cosmos blue, a porsche colour code 38u. try a supplier who does nexa paint -- formerly ici. i have a rather large list of tvr colours and cross references which i will pass on to v8griff because he will know how to copy them to this site.

Thank you for that, the car was advertised (correctly it now seems) as cosmos blue but I thought this was a Ford colour and then dismissed it as soon as I saw it (it's much lighter - the ford cosmos blue), so that's why I went with the handbook colour, but your explanation works for me, I'll email the company involved.

Thanks again

Paul

Potato muncher - looks like you are spot on. I managed to find the code P422 - Pt17b on my car. Will this cross refer in a paint shop or am I ok ordering the BMW code 276.

What does the P422 stand for?

p422 is just part of ici/nexa paint codes, you could try getting the paint with the bmw code but have a look at a colour chip at the paint suppliers before you buy. you should have no trouble quoting both codes to a ici/nexa paint supplier like brown brothers who have 30 odd branches.

Also the E36 M3 3.0 was available in Avus Blue. I think those started on '92 K plates.
