First of all, please let me apologise for barging into your forum and not having the decency in buying a TVR first!! :-)

I'm a proud owner of a member of the Griffin family (sounds better than Vauxhall!) and want to try something a bit different on it.

I've seen and been told that the Chimera has a back lit number plate so does not need an ugly light unit accompanying it - is this correct?

I'd like to adapt this idea to fit to my car but without knowing how TVR do it, i'm a bit lost!!

Can anyone explain how this is done?
Is it a different number plate (most plates have a grey film over the back which looks like light wouldn't pass through it)
What light is used?

Hope someone can help me (and possibly show me if you live near to Dunstable!)

Best regards,

Darren

Well basically yes, early Chimaera's, Griff's and Cerberas have back lit numberplates, it's basically a 'light transparent' numberplate available from TVR dealers and the specialist numberplate people, the lights are then just normal numberplate lights but instead of being above/below the plate they are behind it

The inset is slightly different so that the plate sits flush with the body, but the light unit behind the plate is the same. The plates are translucent. You can get them from TVR dealers or off the web (do a search on the TVR forums to get the suppliers).

Thanks for replying - very much appreciated.

Does anyone live in the Luton, Dunstable or Welwyn Garden City area that wouldn't mind showing me theirs?

Might be worth popping into your local TVR Dealer explain what your after and have a poke about there, you could even pick up a new plate while your there

You could try going to the Herts TVRCC meeting in Harpenden. Details at www.tvrcc.com/regions.htm

Or ... the East Herts mob are meeting tomorrow. Details in another thread in this forum. I have no idea how to post a URL for it - sorry.
