Can anyone recommend an exhaust system or modification that can be done to a Chim to make it louder without altering the performance or general day to day smooth running?

Ive got some neighbours to annoy (only joking).

Cut the rear back box out and weld two pipes in their place - that always seems to do the trick for me

Install a small microphone down one of the pipes then fit a RCA stylee stereo system and play the noise through that

everyone normally says ' take the cats out'
I personally feel you should leave them in place and remove the manifold and replace it with netting, should sound quite nice, anyone going to tried it ?

Have the silencer box cut open and remove some/all of the baffling. Its been done and sounds good too - and not too loud. Wouldn't want you to get in trouble with the BiB

Modify the exhaust to have holes just before the silencer which blanking plates can be fitted too. When you want it loud, take the plates off.

This is not a good idea if the silencers are under the car (which they are) and really only works for side exhausts.

remember that the louder you make it the less tracks you can use it on.

sleeved exhausts? how does that work? I take it this is a permanent feature and not something you can remove at will?

Tony if you're passing Ewelme Coachworks way again, let me know & you can hear a sleeved exhaust if you want

Download the last Surrey Run trailer here (4mb) www.sleepy-fish.com/images/videos/SurreyRun4Trailer.wmv then wait for Big Al's Red Chim to pull away, that's got a Fernhurst exhaust which I'm sure it will pop & bang when slowing down too. But does sound great.

(You've been listening to Rude Girls Griff at the Flying Fox then?)

Apparently the 4litre is a louded higher pitch than if sleeving done on 500 due to smaller pipes.

Got my exhaust done at Fernhursts and sounds awesome, loads of pops and bangs etc etc. I've had quite a few comments in my local pub about it but my favourite was from one of my mates that I play golf with, he said "it sounds like a harrier jump jet when you turn up in that bloody thing".

Only downturn is they reckon it's somewhere around the 105db mark so most trackdays are ruled out.
