Anyone got any suggestions for a good deal on 2nd car insurance???

I've got my T350 insured as my main car and I now want to insure my runabout-workhorse-skip as well.

I've had a couple of let-downs this week-end on seemingly good prices, only to find out that they've messed-up and got the no-claims-discount incorrectly applied to the second car also.

I'd suggest you get the runabout insured with an everyday cheapo insurer like Elephant, and the T350 with a TVR specialist like A Manning or ClassicLine.

Try Aon for the 350 as your 2nd car

I've got the Seat Cupra R with Honda Insurance (Marsh ins) and then Mannings gave me the same amount of no-claims onto the Chimaera's policy. About £900 for both cars fully comp for me and the missus

Try DirectLine depending on what group the second car is, and if you've got full No Claims this may help ...........

If the second car is a low enough group, they will offer you a second insurance policy with an introductory bonus of 60% (well it was for me).

As long as you are claim free during the year, this introductory bonus, becomes No Claim Bonus for the following year, so the second policy now has Full No Claims as well.

Once the policy is renewed, next year, you can change the low group vehicle for ANY group car. Obviously the premium is recalculated, but you now have two sets of Full No Claims.

Maybe worth a call anyway.

Yes, the stumbling block is getting a second NCB, as strictly speaking you need to 'earn' both. However, some specialist insurers understand the particular situation of TVR owners and will offer full matching NCB. It's worth telling them you had an NSX, as some won't insure first-time TVR owners unless they've driven other powerful cars too.

Hope your homework pays off!

Sunninghill mirrored my 6 yrs NCB on my main car onto the TVR .. the only thing they wouldn't do was protect it, as afterall I hadn't technically earned it.

Cheers
Matt.

Thanks everyone - Having insured the T350 A.Manning 'couldn't find' their quote for the workhorse and the price went up significantly on the requote [lesson no.1, get it in writing].
A number of insurance companies didn't offer all the discounts they could on the internet [lesson no.2, talk with them on the phone after getting the discounted web quote]
During the follow up call my initial first choice got their quote entirely wrong even after me questioning response [lesson no.3, don't leave it too late in the day, or everyone else will be shut].
Finally, lesson no.5 - don't put your trust in a TVR dealer, you may end up going through a shed-load of hassle having to prematurely insure your second car.
I ended up insuring the barge/behemoth/leviathan/panzer/skip/tank/workhorse with local broker A-Plan in Bath - they wanted the business and offered a good enough discount.
Did anyone guess I've had a **** day at work followed by a **** evening at home?

I have two cars insured with Norwich Union Direct. Only one "earned" full NCD, but they gave me a second full NCD as an "Introductory Discount". Only if I insured both cars with them but very competitive prices anyway.
