I have recently relocated to a little know country called Montenegro, just south of Croatia and wondering what to do with the Chimaera...

Now, it's not exactly a country that knows everything (if anything) about TVRs and the roads are possibly 'just' up to the task.

Big question is, do I sell her now and buy another when I return in a couple of years, or do I drive the 1,650 odd miles down here and enjoy her in the sun!

Any suggestions or any expereinces would be greatly appreciated.

What are the police down there like?

Once you've answered that question, you'll probably be able to make your own mind up wink

Drive it. It's an old (known ) engine and running gear, parts are plentiful and cheap. It will be rare out there, and the summers there are stunning. Do it!

The police... Well the border control have this wonderful 'eco' tax... Which could be fun to get through.

But as for the police, who knows... Think you have problems if you invite them.

Could always drive yours down with me if I decide to take it. Then there would be 2 down there! - Which would be a lot of fun in the sun.

I know that much. One side shear rock face after a small drainage ditch, the other the big blue! - Certainly don't want to be too tail happy!

WazzaL, Your original question really depends on how attached you are to your car. I seem to remember you had spent a fair bit of time personalising the car when i met you at the Ace Cafe. If you sell now, you are taking a gamble on what the car market will have to offer in a few years. Prices being so low at the moment and the difficulty in getting a quick sale. In two years time the market for a chim may be much more boyant and the prices may rise back up to a reasonable level.

Personally i would get it over there with you even if you just play with her once in a blue moon.

Enjoy the sunny weather.

How much would it cost to have it in good quality storage where they would run it every now and then.
Possibly no worse than selling and buying another one, with all the losses involved.

If the car is a good-un I wouldn't want to lose it.

Beginning to think that the general belief is I should bring it down and wake up all the locals...

Definately going to have to have a good look into it now. But might make sure she's fully checked over beforehand. Last thing I'd really need is something failing on me...

Listen to Don1 yes

I doubt there is anywhere in the world that has not seen the Buick/Rover V8 due to its use on Landrover/Range Rovers & most of the other parts on the car are raided from other manufactures parts bins i.e. Rover, Ford & Vauxhall(GM). Even then if there is a special part that is needed its only a courier's despatch away TNT,DHL etc

I have a friend who has a house in Germany & a huge Villa in Croatia & he regularily uses his Chim between the two & the odd trip back to his house in Surrey. He has had no problem with servicing & repairs.

I flew out to Croatia last year to look at the Chim when his crank pulley fell off, turned out to be the crank pulley bolt had sheared, I could not get the broken part out so he used a local garage who where even able to make a new bolt as the crank pulley bolts where on backorder with Landrover over here.

Laying the car up for that amount of time is such a waste...so go on & enjoy yourself evildriving

Wassal you will be surprised what local techies can do, I took my Chim to Poland in 1995, everybody thought I was crazy.
During my trip I had a punture in my rear tyre and thought I was stranded for at least two weeks to get a new tyre.
It was in the middle of nowhere in southern Poland, I went to a local 'Vulcanisatia' tyre place and blow me they had all the best gear and mended my tyre to get back to England with no problems.
