So, still over the moon with my new S6!

Another sillt question I'm afraid:

I would like to hammerite a part of the rear chassis this weekend - towards the back - this means jacking up the rear of the car.

Question is, being a tubular chassis, is there anywhere in particular I should use as a jacking point - the last thing I want to do is damage the car!

I will be using a trolley jack and stands

Any suggestions, gratefully received.

PS - my car has no cigarette lighter for the sat nav - is this normal? Or have aI just not found it!

Cheers

Simon

For the cigar lighter, have a look in the owners manual - in th chim it's in the door, the Sag it's hidden under the stereo....

As for the chassis - DON'T use Hammerite. Use Waxoil or POR15. Jack up on the weld points just behind the front wheel, and in front of the rear wheel. Rest the axle stands on the axles... Paint from ther, but only after properly cleaning it.

There is loads of info on here about this all - just search.

I alway use the rear member behind the diff. This lifts the whole car without twisting the chassis which the jacking points do if you only lift one side - great for a all points lift though ! Put a block of wood over the metal to spread the load and the lift with the jack centrally and then put the axle stands with suitable protection along the longtitudianl rails.

Use the same principle at the front if required.

All IMO but its what I do !

I would not use POR 15 either!! I have had the worst restoration nightmare of my life with this stuff!
I would use OSPHO by SkyCO as a primer (as per the instructions), then scuff, epoxy prime over that and then paint.

Be carful if jacking on the corners use blocks of wood under the wheels and do a bit on either side at a time. My old man jacked his Griff up doind a 1 corner and then the other all in one go and his bonnet hasnt sat the same since.

Just for info,
Hammerite does not flex and so will crack and allow moisture in.
