morning all,
Good news i am picking up my long awaited car tonight !

Just a quick question about insurance. I have been quoted £394 fully comp, limited to 5000miles, no no claims, kept in garage for my Chimaera 500, 1999 -
I have heard that if you join the TVR car club you get a preferential rate ?? what does everyone think ??

Many thanks guys

Depends on who the insurer is.

Hagerty & Mannings both give TVRCC discount. I have been with Hagerty for the last few years and they are very good, both companies allow track use, with Hagerty you have to pay 10% of your premium for the extra cover per day, Mannings I think are inclusive.

For the little it costs, may as well join up anyway. Sprint is a good read. As he says, some insurers offer reduced rates.

There are some other reductions available from the Car Club so worth joining.

Speak to Hagerty (or is it Hagarty?) Either way they're incredible - I'd have to add a zero to their premium for any other company and seem like a very helpful bunch too.

I cannot recommend Hagarty enough also, were by far the cheapest for me so long as it is a second car.

Hagerty gave me a good price until I reminded them that I need business use and that scuppered it and they couldn't quote.
Don't forget that if you have any more business use than driving to and from the office you need business cover - even if you just take the post on the way home apparently.

A Plan were competitive and now do my chipped BMW & Mini but they wouldn't/couldn't cover my new KTM with just a smaller gearbox sprocket.

I'm pleased for you, but the quote they gave me was less than £20 cheaper than that from Mannings, and they currently provide me with business use and inclusive trackday cover. A-Plan were nearly £100 more than Mannings ! eek

It just goes to show it's down to the individual and the time of asking more than anything - I tried quotes from around 6 different companies before ending up with A Plan as the best offer.

Depends on circumstances I guess. I'm perhaps a little younger than some TVR owners and the premium for my S is litterally a tenth of what some 'specialists' quoted me living in London with no NCB. As it is I've just renewed for £210 - a third of what my poverty-spec Focus daily driver costs.

Mannings refused point blank to even quote me when we first bought the Griff.

We are now with the Jelf group as they do (via the club) a Family Marque policy whereby as long as there is a TVR in it, they'll also insure cars and motorbikes as well.

I've literally just renewed for this year this morning, two of us, a Griffith 500, Grinnall Scorpion, Ford Ka, and three motorbikes (all over 600cc), fully comp with European breakdown cover, £1280.

I had to claim earlier this year when a plonker drove out of a side road into the drivers side of the Ka, no fuss, great repair and got my excess back in time to use it on a wine trip to France!.

Not as far as I am aware, this was the case for a few months last year, but they are free to quote again

Hoover, according to other threads Hagerty were stopped from quoting 'against' Mannings following complaints by Ann Manning. I undertsand the reason was they both use Allainz (sp) and so Mannings stopped Hagerty being able to quote.

I'm not complaining as they were simply looking after their business, but I can't inderstand why my quotes with Hagerty are so much cheaper (hundreds)when I specify the same cover. Hagery have been brilliant for me, Classicline were very good too, just a little more expensive. As has been said already, much will depend on personal circumstances.
