I've been bidding/watching a TVR carbon fibre pen for the past week which incidentally finished last night, I had to go out for a while which meant I would miss the end of the auction so I tasked a friend to bid for me, when the auction ended he phoned me to say I was out bid to the tune of £1 in the last 2 seconds - USELESS! was the successful bidder anyone on here?

They really ought to have a feature that let you enter the maximum you wanted to pay and have it bid for you up to your limit. Then the only way you'd miss out is if somebody else was willing to pay more than you are.

That's almost what did! put my max bid on (when the ego kicks in the max bid does tend to be exceeded mind) at £50, didn't think a pen would ever reach it, told my mate what my max bid was but told him if push came to shove I would bid more followed by DON'T LOOSE IT, so he goes and looses it!

So your maximum bid wasn't actually your maximum bid...

If he puts on your maximum bid with two seconds to go and gets outbid, then it went for more than you were prepared to pay for it, sorry!

Look on the bright side - you don't actually need a TVR carbon fibre pen and you saved £50 biggrin

Thank you Columbo, I told my bidder I had placed a "maximum bid" of £50.00 however, I also told him not to loose it, reading between the lines that meant I was prepared to go higher - catch up!
